9mm loads for Berrys 124gr plated bullets

I just acquired 8# of Universal Clays and American Select in 4# jugs for $45/jug. Does anyone have experience with these powders with Berry's 124 gr plated or a jacketed bullet?

Speer #14 has a 124 gr jacketed bullet load for American Select. Usually you would load a plated bullet to mid-range of a jacketed bullet.

The Hodgdon site has load data for bullets of similar weight using Universal Clays.

I used to load 4.7 gr of universal with the 124 gr. Berry's at 1.135" OAL. This gave me about 1120 fps in a G17. After I got a suppressor, I modified my load to 4.0 gr of powder and dropped it to 1000 fps so that I could run subsonic with 124 gr bullets. No sense in wasting the money on 147's if I didn't have to.

Checking to see if anyone has loads for 124g HPs, emailed Berry's and they didn't have an exact one. Titegroup, Unique, Clays, etc. Looking to make USPSA minor.

Speer #14 has Unique and Titegroup loads for 124 gr jacketed bullets. If you are using plated bullets then you don't want to go above mid range of jacketed loads.

If all you want is a 125 pf, you only need a little over 1000 fps and even the starting loads are faster than this. Now, as to whether they will cycle the gun, well, try it and see. If the gun doesn't cycle, up the powder just a bit.

My experience with Berry and other plated bullets was that they need .2 to .3 grains less powder than jacketed to reach the same velocity.

I'd start with 4.4gr Universal which should give you around 1050 fps or so through a 4" to 4.25" barrel. I haven't used American Select in 9mm although I've burned lots of it in .45 acp. Let us know how our AS loads work out.

One of my go to 9mm loads is a 124gr Berrys over top 4.0gr TiteGroup seated to 1.140". Averages right at 1100 fps from 4" G19.

Ok thanks all. Currently using similar load for Montana Gold 124g JHP hoping that Berry's 124g Plated HP would be similar. It would be out of a G34 or M&P 9l, which have 5.31 and 5" barrels.

4.3gr universal at mid to short OAL should get you 1050-1120fps.
