Slide Swap between a Gen 3 and Gen 4?

Will a Gen 3 slide from a G17 fit on a Gen. 4 frame and work? I ask because if Glock was to quit making Gen 3 frames and only made Gen 4 frames, for all us with Gen 3 guns if one of our frames were to crack or be destroyed could you just put your Gen 3 slide, recoil spring and barrel on a new replacement Gen. 4 frame?

I'm no expert but from what I understand gen 3 is not going any where. Gen 3 is on the list of approved guns in California. Gen 4 is not. Glock did not even release its newest model 30s in gen 4.

I guess like everything this could change.

In that case put your gen 3 upper on a gen four lower and head to the range.

Nope. Can't do it. This is actually a subject that's been covered here a few times and not to hard to find some picture on the internet. There is enough difference between the two generations that you can't swap slides. The 30S is different though. A 30S slide will fit on a G30 Gen 4 frame, but I've never know anyone to actually fire it that way. While I don't believe the Gen 3 is going anywhere anytime soon, I think it's only a matter of time before we see the 30S in Gen 4. It's almost there anyway, so why not add it to the lineup. I'll snap one up as soon as they do.

Oh really? Why not? Everything that I've read so far, says that you can. What do you know, that others don't?

No way I'd shoot it. If there ever comes a time that I can't get parts to maintain my Glocks, they'll become fulltime safe queens. Anyway, here's a another GT thread on the same subject...again.

A Gen 3 slide will work on a gen 4 frame. Won't work the other way around. My 21sf slide fits and functions on my G41 frame despite the unsightly gap at the front of the dust cover.

Wish, glock somehow managed to keep slide comparability between early gen glocks with gen 4!

My Gen 3 G21 slide that is cut for a RMR fits a Gen 4 G21. I have hundreds of rounds through it.
