Man Plans to Shoot folks at a Theater; Changes Mind to Walmart

A local area guy plans to kill some folks at a theater Sunday night; then changes his mind to Walmart since he was afraid of running out of ammo.

Read it here.

At least his mom was aware and made a phone call. Saying he was off his meds makes me wonder when she learned about his purchases?

I'm strictly speculating, but I think he may have showed the guns/ammo to mumzie. IIRC, that was something said on the radio.

Glad the headed him off at the pass.

Don't know about there, but most places I've lived, you'd have to be off you meds to think Walmart was a wise target. Especially during hunting season.

They'd have to call in the Game Warden to see who has to use their tag.

Family can be the best defense from bad things, if there is at least some family values.

Mom was courageous and did the right thing, in spite of her love (or because of it) for her son.

Family breakdown means bad times for all the rest of society.

Very similar to your comment......This is a lil ol country town...I would have bet he wouldn't have had a chance to break the glass at Walmart to get extra ammo....or had a lot of time to reload. I think there would have been several citizens there to rectify the problem.

It is very nice that the guy was stopped before he could've gone through with his plans.

Nutcases need to be put in institutions instead of being set free and trusted to take their medication. I mean, really, you give a nutcase responsibility.

No idiot, into the padded room with your straightjacket on.

I go back an forth on issues like this.

While on meds he is a productive member of society. While on meds he would be a caged for no valid reason. And more importantly I don't have to provide room, board and guards if he is free.

Flip side, when he is off his meds he is dangerous.

I think in this case he either needs to be put down permanently or should be on probation for the rest of his life with drug tests monthly and put on a no guns list.

Who determines who is a nutcase? What criteria do you use? To quote a recent comment made by Z71Bill, "This slope is ice covered in oil topped with banana peels."

They used to be institutionalized. When I was young I remember there were still state run Mental Hospitals with permanent residents.

Then President Reagan decided it was costing too much and promoted their closure as part of welfare reform. This, I feel was one of the worst things he did. I think he was a good man but this act was not well thought out.

They were released with no plan of how to deal with them. This is why they roam the streets and menace society.

When you become a danger to other people. When you need medicine to prevent you from doing criminal activity.

It's like my sister in law, wents nuts on a cop durring a traffic stop and got arrested. Court let her go considering her night in jail punishment enough because she's nuts enough to have a Dr's note.

Funny how you blame Reagan for deinstitutionalization... which began in the 1950's and hugely expanded in the 1960's... long before he was governor, much less president. Are you off your meds and thinking like a liberal?

I remember the final nail.

He could have stopped it, yes?

Funny how you can "strap on a gun" and right away get a craving for Nachos.
