Glock 19 and Glock 26 Carry Ammunition
First let me apologize because I’m sure this topic has been covered about a thousand times. Was wounding what you thought about my carry ammunition for my concealed carry weapons. In the summer I carry my Glock 26 with Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P JHP and my winter carry is my Glock 19 with Federal Tactical HST 147 grain JHP.

good choice on the GD but with all that I have read the 147 9mm is not a good performer. let me say that different, there are better rounds for the 9mm. if I had a 9mm my winter load would be the HST in 125grn. I would even stay with your GD ammo before I would go with any 147grn.

frankr,
I tent to agree with 1canvas... "I would even stay with your GD ammo before I would go with any 147grn."
Either stay with the same grain/brand bullet or for winter carry perhaps something like Hornady's new "Critical Duty."
http://www.hornady.com/store/9MM-LUG...Critical-DUTY/
A bit more penitrating (through winter gear) than the 147g round would be.
Good luck

We have three options.
Jacketed Hollow point
Bonded or not
Plus Pressure or +P if you can keep a 2nd round on target quickly.
Everything else is personal preference. Actually everything is personal preference. Do your own research, do not put your life on the line for someone else's make/model preferences.

Try the Winchester or Federal 9mm +p+ 115gr JHP. You'll get 1350 FPS out of your G19.

Thank you all for your input. I like seeing what other people carry in the same weapons I have. One thing I’m sure we can all agree on is, I would not want to get hit with any of them.

They all look good. It comes down to three things. Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.

while shot placement is good to try to achieve it rarely happens when stress is high and the shooter and shot at are in motion.

as far as penetration of winter clothes the only thing to concider is the hollowpoint possibly plugging, winter clothes does nothing to slow down a bullet. the idea of a heavier bullet for more penetration through winter clothing is a myth.
the one thing some heavy for calibers may offer is a more aggresive [larger] hollowpoint because of the slower speeds they run at.

flw has it right on the money... "Actually everything is personal preference. Do your own research, do not put your life on the line for someone else's make/model preferences."
My best advise is that Whatever you choose in whatever platform, practice with that like your life depended on it - because it does!

I use Winchester ranger 127 +p+ in both my g19 and g26.
Typically only carry my 26 and my 19 stays on bedside duty but may start carrying the 19 since its getting cooler and ill be bundling up more. Have put plenty rounds of the ranger through both guns, never an issue.

I use the 124 +P GD in most of my 9mms, but there is nothing wrong w/ the 147 HST either. Most of the "hate" on the 147s is from old JHPs.

If you can handle it, you may want to consider Underwood 124gr GD +p+ out of the G26. You will get the same velocity as the Speer factory 124gr GD +p out of te G19, and if you like, you can get an honest 1,300 fps out of the Underwood +p+ out of your G19. Tnoutdoors9 test of the Underwood 124gr GD +p+ looked pretty good. I generally carry a 357 sig, but when I do carry the 9mm it is loaded with Underwood.

The 127gr +P+ RA9TA gets you 1300fps from the G19 as well.

I am not sure what you are saying, but if it is to say that the Federal and Winchester 9mm 115gr +p+'s do not go above 1300 fps in a Glock 19, you should not base your point on one gun, or one box of rounds. I get over 1,300 fps for 9BPLE out of both of my G19's and have exceeded 1,350 for the Winchester round out of the same guns. BTW, these two rounds are very effective and my choice before any 147gr round.

Id bet everything underwood clocks 1300+ never shot it
With that said ive never got close to 1300fps with the 115+p+ fble or the win.127+p+

Any full-power hollow-point from a reputable manufacturer will do everything you can reasonably expect a 9mm to do.
Its up to you to do the rest.
Don't agonize over which is "best."
Ammo has become like athletic shoes. The supposed "best" kind is only available for a short while, and then they change it.
Or at least rename it or rebrand it.
Shoot at least 100 rounds of your choice of defensive ammo in your personal gun to make sure it functions in your personal gun. The best bullet in the world, caught in a bolt-over-base malfunction will do you no good.
Rule 1 of ammunition.
Must work.

After all the reading I did last night on modern 9mm ammo and short barreled pistols I think you've made two excellent choices.

Was refering to Win. 115gr +p+. With 127 +p+, I get around 1,250fps.
