Anyone Drink Boilo?
My girlfriend and her family introduced me to the stuff. It's a tradition they keep some around all winter and fall it seems like and heat up a few shots of it when everyone comes home from hunting and stuff.
Wow that stuff is good!
I caught a cold and it was killing me, so I got the recipe and made up a batch of Boilo. The herbs and cinnamon and hot liquor cleared me right up and I feel better than I have in a few days!
The recipe I was given was
8 oz honey
8 oz h2o
6 peppercorns
6 all spice seeds
2 cinnamon sticks
1 orange grated(surprising hard to grate an orange)
Heat it up until it boils, then dump in a 750ml bottle of 100 proof whiskey.
Cover the pot tightly so the alcohol doesn't get out too much and take to a boil then immediately pull off the burner and cool to room temperature.
Strain seeds and rinds, then reheat and serve hot.
This stuff is amazing, it cures what ails ya!

You can put a rock in a glass and then "dump in a 750ml bottle of 100 proof whiskey" and you would probably feel better.

The herbs and honey definitely help though.

I have been looking for a recipe for this for a long time thanks. Any recommendations on the whiskey brand to use? Also when grading the orange skin too or peel it?

You grate the whole orange, rinds and all. I think next time I'll be lazy and cut it into chunks and put it in the food processor.
Four queens is what I was told to use. You want an economical 100 proof whiskey. No sense getting fancy when you're covering the taste with all the honey and spices.

It's the kind of thing that you start sipping around a bonfire with your friends, and an hour later you've managed to fall in said bonfire because you tried to stand up and were about 400x drunker than you thought you were.
Or so I'd imagine

I've made a similar recipe using sugar instead of honey, I'll have to try it with honey sometime. I don't boil it after adding the whiskey though, I just boil the other ingredients then let it cool off a bit before adding the whiskey. Boiling the whiskey just wastes the alcohol, it mixes fine without doing it.

No they don't. Placebo effect combined with a sugar bump.

Zactly! Don't boil alcohol.
Aside: I had one of those honey-ized whiskey's at a bar back in the spring. I forget which American distiller made it. Name brand, now honey-ized.
BLEECH! It was awful. Terrible. Disgusting.

I found gargling w half a shot of 120 proof bourbon will kill off a sore throat if you catch it early.
