I'm looking to get some Kevlar gloves to use while searching suspects.

Can anyone recommend a pair?

I've used Hatch and been happy. I've had both the kevlar and the spectra models and can't see much difference between them. What I really liked them for was working wrecks or scenes with a buch of glass. Got some scarred up leather, but my hand are still fine.

Good pair of gloves. They allow for good feel and dexterity and they also have extra patches in the cradle of your thumb for better weapon control. They also have a terry cloth wipe on the back of each thumb for those extra warm days.

These, I'm on my second pair, only becasue I lost one of the gloves in my first pair.

Now, I supplement them with a pair of Oakley's with the hard knuckles, but prefer the Hatch for sharp item protection.

I use the same ones,nice fit and feel. Bought them because I lost one performing CPR on someone and I put them in my back pocket to put latex gloves on. I was looking for my gloves and only found one.




I had a nice pair of hatch leather gloves that my dad have me. His uh, clients inside the fence referred to them as "beat em up" gloves.

I don't spend a ton on gloves because you WILL eventually come into contact with a creature so nasty you want to throw them out.

Did you lose the right or the left and which size? I wouldn't mind making a pair.

I use the Spectra lined ones from Hatch. Nice gloves and held up forever.

I never really find a use for them, but I have a pair of Hatch kevlar gloves in the duty bag. They just don't provide enough feel during searches for me - and I always search the nastiest junkified heroin trash full of open sores and injection points. I just use disposable gloves for searches and cheap franklin batting gloves for all other random nonsense.

I get enough feel from my gloves and for pockets, feel around the outside to see what is the general shape of the stuff inside and be careful when inserting your fingers in pockets, go slow, and turn them inside out if at all possible and dump the contents on the ground instead of poking yourself.

For pockets, I don't plunge my hand in and pull the stuff out. I slowly pull the part of the pocket I can see out, then keep doing that until the pocket is rabbit eared. It takes a bit longer, but you won't get stuck.

I had Hatch leather kevlar lined gloves and did not like them. They were very thick with almost no sensitivity in the fingers. The lining would also bunch up when you stuffed your fingers inside making getting them on in a hurry impossible.

I had a set of Hatch non-lined gloves and they worked much better, but did not last long before falling apart. I cant afford a $40 pair of gloves every 8 months.

I am currently using a synthetic glove with kevlar lining in the palm and fingertips. I have much more dexterity with these gloves and can even write in them, which was a no go in the leather gloves. Hate to admit it, but they are 5.11 gloves, have had them several years and they have held up well.

I dont wear them as often as I should. I was actually thinking this week that I need to make it habit again to keep them on throughout shift so that they are on when needed.

I pretty much so do the same. I usually take a feel on the outside of the pocket first, to get some sort of idea how much stuff and maybe what is in the pocket. Then I slowly pull stuff out the same way you described.

I dont feel as though my search is complete until they have rabbit ears sticking out from both front pockets.

The best searches are ones where the suspect is standing there with rabbit ears all around.

They're not kevlar and not resistant to major cuts, but I've had great luck with Easton batting gloves for things like grip and minor abrasions.

Agreed, but Jeans usually dont work so well for rabbit ears in the back.

I'm in the "don't like Kevlar" club. I used the Hatch shorty operators for years, and never got stuck.

I haven't worked patrol for over 4 years now, so I'm not up to date on the latest and greatest patrol gear.

I've been wearing the subdued black Mechanix gloves on search warrants, and I love them. I've also learned that I can still work my iPhone screen with them on. So, that's a plus.

I don't like the lined cut resistant stuff either. My biggest complaint is poor feel for weapon handling. I use a pair of Hatch Hard Knuckle Operators.

At a city safety meeting, a product salesman wanted to demonstrate his company's kevlar lined gloves. He asked to borrow a knife, and my buddy, who uses razor strops on his knives, volunteered his. The man then made several blade swipes of his kevlar glove covered palm. We called the paramedics.
