Hey everyone, I just picked up my new Mossberg 590 special purpose. I brought it home and took it out of the box. I cycled the action a few times, but when I grip the fore-end i noticed it has a good bit of side to side movement. Is this normal for a shotgun? Are they supposed to be sort of loose like this? It cycles fine, i just was wondering why it doesn't feel a bit more solid.

Please avoid commenting if you are not familiar with shotguns.

Yes, I know its not an expensive shotgun, I just want to make sure its normal before I go out and put a bunch of shells through it.

Perfectly normal,Mossbergs are known for their forend rattle.
Your 590 is still one of the best pump guns on the market.
Take her out and break her in.

I own a 500A and a 590 Special Purpose (had this 590 for 20yrs now).

Normal. If you do end up getting a tight one, it will just loosen over time. The action will also smooth out a little over time. I've got a shotgun class coming up soon where I'll be putting over 200 rounds through mine.
