Senate moving to clear bureaucratic hindrance of 4th Amendment

Hey, if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear, right?

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57...hout-warrants/

From the article:

Revised bill highlights
✭ Grants warrantless access to Americans' electronic correspondence to over 22 federal agencies. Only a subpoena is required, not a search warrant signed by a judge based on probable cause.

✭ Permits state and local law enforcement to warrantlessly access Americans' correspondence stored on systems not offered "to the public," including university networks.

✭ Authorizes any law enforcement agency to access accounts without a warrant -- or subsequent court review -- if they claim "emergency" situations exist.

✭ Says providers "shall notify" law enforcement in advance of any plans to tell their customers that they've been the target of a warrant, order, or subpoena.

✭ Delays notification of customers whose accounts have been accessed from 3 days to "10 business days." This notification can be postponed by up to 360 days.

Most people here have a negative view of the ACLU, but this is the sort of crap they take on.

Yikes, thanks for the detailed run down. That's very helpful.

If congress wants to read my e-mail, then I want to read their e-mails.
I want to see some bank accounts, too.

...and some medical records, and some court records, and they should all pee in the bottle and publish the results of their drug tests.

If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for them.

..

It's not congress. It's you and your ilk that are getting permission to trample the citizens rights. How does it feel to belong to the largest, most corrupt and best financed criminal organization in the country?

The question is rhetorical. We know you enjoy it.

Leahy scuttles his warrantless e-mail surveillance bill
After public criticism of proposal that lets government agencies warrantlessly access Americans' e-mail, Sen. Patrick Leahy says he will "not support" such an idea at next week's vote.
Or maybe it just goes underground?

Senate bill rewrite lets feds read your e-mail without warrants

Proposed law scheduled for a vote next week originally increased Americans' e-mail privacy. Then law enforcement complained. Now it increases government access to e-mail and other digital files.

obama and hitler approve of this message.

Or maybe it just goes underground?
It will be buried in some other piece of legislation which is critical to pass... so yes they don't quit they just continue the shell game.

They will probably just add it to the healthcare fiasco as an amendment, under redistribution of information or something.

And the thing of it is the bill began as legislation to PROTECT Americans privacy. Then it was quietly rewritten.

They need to vote that turd out of office.

Congress passes bad laws. Cops blindly enforce them. Courts blindly uphold them. We the people get screwed.

Time to go rogue.

I think laws like this circumvent the whole ratification process. Which is constitutionally illegal.

It's been done for years but is still wrong.
