Big surprise-Rockaway (Queens) residents arm themselves to fend off looters

I am the advisor in chief for a bunch of nervous people who now want to know how they can get a gun, how did I manage to have so much ammo, water, fuel, IR cameras etc.

(I don't live in NYC or it's immediate environs).

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/...icle-1.1196031

Here is the rub....you need a PERMIT to own a shotgun or rifle in NYC. It cost $234.xx to get that permit and a mandatory trip to the licensing office in Queens or 1 Police Plaza in lower Manhattan for EVERYONE who lives in ANY NYC county.

What a ****ed up place!

A sheep with a gun is still a sheep. If they weren't sheep they would have done something about it before now, moved, paid the tax and got the permit, bought a gun on the black market, elected better government.

They could still fight back, but sheep don't organize, they huddle.

Out of a hundred most will go back to brain dead mode as soon as it is over and maybe one or two will change their lives in some way to be not sheep. Not enough to make a difference in their community though.

So what's a G-19 and 50 rounds of JHP going for in that area these days?

History shows that this is not the progression humans - even those who have been coddled for much of their lives take when the veneer and safety net of "society" is removed.

It's like a domesticated animal that kills for the 1st time.

While I feel bad for the people going through this mess, it goes to show that the lack of personal responsibility and planning gets you corn holed in a time of crisis. But let's blame the power company! let's blame the insurance companies for charging too much for flood insurance! Let's blame the moon for changing the tides! "It's not our fault!"

I couldn't live in a place like NYC.

You don't need one!

In a post I had earlier, I asked why there was no on-air reporting by the major networks about looting. I was criticized by the usual folks on this board for assuming there would be. Burying your head in the sand and not accepting what some of the scum of society actually thinks is their "rights" to loot is beyond my belief. The news in Europe is reporting it, but I guess when your agenda is to promote the pathetic leader we have now (hopefully, for not much longer), you don't want to portray the looters as bad! Reality hurts sometimes, but guess what - you've got to accept it and move on. If that involves protecting yourself by whatever means necessary, then do it and let the folks with their heads in the sky or sand become the victims.

Having been born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn I can tell you first hand that the greatest kept secret is just how well armed the good people of NYC are. The fact that nobody talks about their firearms should never be confused with New Yorker's not having them. HH

Ummm with all due respect... I'm born and raised in NY..

And if you believe the "people of NY" are well armed you are so woefully out of touch I don't know what to to tell you.

What cause you knew some people with guns in NY? Whoopie..

I didn't have one friend whose father didn't have either a jap or kraut gun in a closet. There were more guns in Bay Ridge and Chelsea than many armies. I stand by my post. HH

I'd guess the grand total of Arisaka/Nambu ammunition in their possession is...0 rounds.

And when was the last time it was fired? 1945?

Why would you think that? I've known several people with WWII trophies and they all had ammo with them, which you can buy at any well-stocked gun store.

Ammo shelf life is pretty much infinite. WWI (1914) ammo that has been stored dry and cool is as good as the day it was made.

BTW, I'd LOVE to buy guns from that NYC gun dealer - his prices were so good I'd forgive him for the "clip" thing.

Sounds like LA during the riots. The same folks who voted for gun bans suddenly were shocked they had to wait 15 days to buy a handgun.

I agree.

And I realize it sounds pretty sick but honestly I couldn't care less that the people of NY or NJ are unarmed morons. As a matter of fact, I find the fact that they as a whole are unable to defend themselves deserved. Beyond that I'm fine with some people taking an ***** kicking.

The best thing that can happen is some limited mayhem so that the ostriches in the NE will realize that voting people into office who think that singing kumbaya and holding hands is going to bring wide spread civil unrest to a standstill.

People only seem to become educated after they suffer.

What I find ironic is how people will roll their eyes at you when you talk about SHTF scenereos and tell you it's never going to happen. Then they are convinced that if it were to happen, the system would be right there to ensure law and order. They call those who prepare as nuts, and doomsdayers.

Japanese calibers in a "well-stocked gun store" in Queens? Have you ever been to NYC?
