Surprise Wedding or am I crazy?
Alright. I am 44 and this is the first go around for me. Been seeing this chick for years. We have been talking about getting married for a year or more but job changes for me have kept me from making the step. We did buy her a dress last year. Her ultimatum is we gotta get married before I can buy more guns or another boat....
So 2 weekends ago I got to thinking. It looks like I will be finishing up this temporary job in Maine right before thanksgiving and transition to a full time job in Chattanooga December 3. Since we live in Northeast, TN I booked a banquet hall and large cabin in Pigeon Forge... without her knowing.... What I am telling Ladyfriend is we are just going for the night... Little does she know.
The plan is in the works to surprise her. I have my family flying in to Knoxville and am in the process of getting my friends notified to be there. I am holding off another week on telling her friends and family. A few might spill the beans. I think just telling them it is a very important surprise party for Ladyfriend is all they need to know.
I have a local person doing the legwork for me. She already has the dress at her house. The rings were bought 2 days ago (I coulda bought a LOT of guns instead!) and are being shipped to the friend's house, too. I bought another suit and shoes to also be shipped to her house. That way Ladyfriend won't see me packing a bunch of new dress clothes when we go for the "overnight stay".
I plan on having everyone meet at the banquet hall in Pigeon Forge about 2pm on the 25th. I want everyone to be there ready and waiting when we pull up. Should be a hell of a surprise for her.
Oh- And ya'll are invited but I am tapped out and can't afford your tickets!
Here is the victim...

I don't know about crazy, but you're certainly more ballsy than I am.

Go for it.
Knock yourself out.
Life is short.
And remember that marriage is intended to be a lifetime commitment. Through broke and rich, skinny and fat, nice and nasty, ups and downs, boredom and excitement, getting what you and getting what she wants. UNTIL YOU DIE.

Not the kind of surprise I would want.

The girl I'm currently sitting next to said she would be beyond pissed if someone did that to her. Personally even without her saying that, I think it's a horrible idea.

Surprise pre-nups don't hold up in court.
But you came to the right place for advice.

Well if she doesn't like it, maybe she is the wrong gal.

I went to a surprise wedding once. This one sounds much better. It was about 16 years ago and they are still married so maybe it's not such a terrible idea. Good luck! If all else fails go to the Peddler and eat yourself to death on their steaks!

I hope you are basing this decision on something OTHER THAN the ultimatum she made. Otherwise, a pre-nup is going to be your best friend.
Hope everything works out for the best for both of you!

I guess what everybody is forgetting is we have talked about it before. Pretty sure she will be overwhelmed but like it.

Does completing an AR build count?

No matter how this turns out, I'm guessing one way or another you'll be buying more guns on the 26th.

This is one of those situations where it might go well, it might go horrible, or it might be mediocre. I personally wouldn't enjoy it if a girl tried to spring a surprise wedding on me, but that's just me, your girl might be different. My advice is to tell her what is going on when you two are alone after getting to the cabin. Then, if she says no, everybody can pretend it's just a normal weekend of everybody hanging out together. That would be a lot better than going "Surprise! We're getting married!" in front of everybody, and her saying no.

My guess is that it might work really really well or be a relationship ending move. But you know her and we don't. Best of luck to you.

You're aware that she's a woman and most likely wants to play a major roll in every single detail of her wedding day, right?

This...seriously op. Abort the plan and tell her. It can be a surprise right now.
No chick...or very few want a surprise wedding. They want to have some role in planning it...and even if you where just planning to do a courthouse thing in the first place she will probably want time to prepare for it.
Also, her family will possibly be mad about being told about it last minute. I know if my daughter was getting married and i didnt know till the last second id be pissed.
I mean, there's a chance it will go over well, but there's also a chance it will blow up in your face. Why take a chance?
You should surprise her with the ring. If you want to do something unique, do it with that.

+1000!!
She's been daydreaming about this since she was a little girl and knows down to the flowers and napkins what she wants for HER SPECIAL ONCE IN A LIFETIME DAY... and you've just taken that away from her.

As others have said you're taking a huge chance. You're more likely to piss her off than make her happy. If anything, instead of doing the wedding there, it'd be better to propose to her.

She looks like a great person. If she won't marry you tell her I'll marry her.....
(I gotta check with the wife first, of course)
