A Happy report
How about a report on something good.
I bought 10 Check-Mate, blued, 7 round, "G.I." magazines, to try out.
They work GREAT!
Just the way they should, load smoothly, insert into the pistol without difficulty, and the "G.I." feed lips make feeding Ball ammo smooth as glass.
They reliably lock the slide on the last shot, and they eject from the pistol with vigor.
IMHO, they are "good to go".
What more can anyone ask.

Impossible, you have to buy expensive mags to make your 1911s run properly.

The 8rnd blued power mags cost less from brownells ($18 apiece) and work stellar.
Just sayin...

Very nice. I'm a proponent of 7-rounders for serious use, as I don't like giving up the extra spring tension. 8-stacks are fine for the range.
My understanding is that Checkmate is the OEM for Colt magazines.

Actually, "G.I." feed lips are optimized for Ball ammo.
Not so good for other styles.
BUT..... for ball ammo, there is nothing better, smooth and hitch free. IMHO.

Currently it is, but who knows a few years from now. Check-Mate also makes FN SCAR-17 mags too.

Maybe GI feed lips and followers were meant only for ball ammo, but my GI mags would feed the old infamous Speer Flying Ashtray.

Checkmate is the OEM for a whole boatload of companies. Metalform has a piece of the Colt mag production as well.

The "Devil" is in the details. While Checkmate does in fact supply some of the magazines to Colt, the magazines are of the "Hybrid" feed lip type.
"G.I." feed lip type MUST be obtained through other sources.
To many this is of little to no consequence, to some (including me), this makes a great deal of difference.
Personally, I am somewhat of a "purist" and want pistols and magazines of the original type, warts and all.

Sorry.
BTW, the CAGE code for Check Mate is 1M291.
The magazines in the photo are KNOWN fakes.
