Went to buy a Nano, came home with a 27

So, I went to the LGS to look at and buy the Beretta Nano. I've been wanting a high-quality carry gun. My Kel-Tec PF9 broke an ejector for no apparent reason. They had the Nano on sale for $399. Seems like a very nice gun, comfortable, smooth (but long) trigger, well made, nice and smooth with nothing external to snag. I compared it to a Glock 27 to see how much smaller it was. It was quite a bit (maybe 3/4") less in OAL, about the exact same height, and the width was visibly less than the 27, but still pretty close.

When I asked to see how it compared to the Glock, the guy kinda said what I knew deep down, "it's nice, but it's no Glock".

So after about 60 seconds of deliberation I went with a used Gen4 27 that they had. Aside from needing a thorough cleaning (which it got as soon as I got home), it looked practically brand new.

So that now makes 5 Glocks in the collection. I'll make it to the club this week and run a couple hundred through it.

Agree fully with that. As bad as I am with spending $ on guns, I would have had the 27 sooner or later anyway, since I wanted one regardless, so sooner is better.

Good move. My son was letting me know about the M&P Shield this spring (before I even knew they existed), so I took a look at the specs and saw it weighed exactly .75 ounce less than a G26. I just so happened to be in the market for my LAST handgun --- one that I can carry effectively, use for home defense, and shoot in competition with quicker double taps (the ONLY reason I wound up with a Gen 4 Model 26 instead of my old trusty G27).

You will probably find yourself carrying the G27 more than your other guns, maybe even your other Glock, although you don't mention which models you have.

I am a big fan of the 27.. Have one on my side as I type this now. I'd take 10 rounds of .40 over 7 rounds of 9mm any day any time... Good choice, cause at the end of the day it isn't a Glock.

For the 27 I recommend GAP mag plates and a good holster... I like OWB.

lmao. I went to my lgs to look at the nano and the shield. Went home with a gen 3 g23. totally and completely unimpressed with the nano. I had money burning a hole in my pocket too.

.40 might have made a difference for me too. But then will it give up one more round in the mag? 5+1 would be a tough sell for me, I ruled out the XD(S) for that reason.

When you say smooth Gen4 trigger bar, what do you mean?

The trigger face on the compacts and sub-compacts have serrations, something to do with US import laws. The full size models have a "smooth" trigger face. So I took a Gen4 trigger bar assembly from my 35 and dropped it in, after polishing. I prefer the smooth trigger face.

I have a G23 currently and find it great albeit a little on the large side for concealed carry. If I find myself in the market for something smaller to better fit the bill I'd probably go with a Kahr PM9 over a G26 because it is slimmer but finding one to give a test drive will be difficult.

For those of us who do not possess the skills of the great Hickok45, a GAP mag floorplate does noticeably-improve controllability.

Overall value is high, even for a 26, but more so for a 27.

Was looking on Glockparts.com and I don't see anything specific to GAP, looks like the same floorplate (part # SP03206) is used for 9, 40, 357 and GAP.

I have 2 Pearce extensions on the way for the pinky rest. Shot 300 rounds today and it was controllable, although by the end the inside of my palm was a little raw.

These are the GAP mag plates. They keep the overall size of the gun the same but add more control.

Looks like the bore axis on the Nano is a little higher than on the Glocks.

Congrats, you just save me some money, was thinking in getting a Nano or Sig 290, already have a 26 and 27.
