Taiwan gets US Visa Waiver
TAIPEI-Taiwanese will be allowed to visit the US without having to apply for a visa, after Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Taiwan's inclusion in the US visa-waiver program from Nov. 1.
Under the program, preapproved, low-risk travellers from participating countries can travel to the US for tourism or business for up to 90 days without a visa. Taiwan becomes the 37th member of the club and fifth Asian participant after Brunei, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
Inclusion in the visa-waiver program represents a political victory for Taiwanese President Ma Ying Jeous who has been lobbying to secure visa-free status for Taiwanese travellers from a variety of countries since he took office in 2008.
