Hi Mas-
Been reading a lot of your stuff lately and I appreciate the time you spend in this forum.

Let me clarify my question: I have been looking at trauma plates and the carriers with plenty of molle webbing, and it seems like a practical setup could be had for less than $150.

My thought is setting up the plate carrier with a handgun, holster, maybe a flashlight and pepper spray, and stashing it under the bed or in a closet to have in the case of a home invasion.

Assuming I (or more importantly my wife) could get to it do you see any drawbacks or problems with having something like that available?

Matt, there are a few things I'd be concerned about.

1. Some trauma plates are designed to reduce blunt trauma and won't necessarily stop bullets per se. You need to make sure there are conventional Kevlar or equivalent layers behind them.

2. Some trauma plates are just smooth metal, and a shot fired upward can glance off them and up into your neck or head. Make sure your plates are covered in something that can "catch" such a projectile.

3. There won't always be time to get the vest on, but when there is, you'll be glad it's there.

4. Include pockets for compact high powered flashlight, and for cell phone. You want illumination and communication with you when you move.
