I decided I'd make this thread showing the process I used on my extra G19 to stipple it. In past threads I've only ever given pictures of the finished products.

First thing I do is dremel the magwell cut outs for my super high speed mag rips (please read the sarcasm):
STOCK:

DONE:


Then I do the finger grooves and back strap with an aggressive texture:



Make the outlines on the gun where I want the stippling done:

Nice, but you did not do the most important parts: get rid of the finger grooves and flatten out the hump!

Enjoy your gun and don't let the "don't modify perfection" guys get you down. I have ground on, sanded on, and stippled most of my Glocks, and love 'em all.

That's actually a pretty damn good job. Clean and consistent. There are a few blurps, but for the most part it's good. I've seen other peoples' jobs that were considered "nice" or "good" but apparently people were just trying to be nice to them...

I'm definitely not a fan of stippling, but I will say you've done a good job compared to most of the others I've seen.

I did the slash method on my Steyr. (I didn't care for the crater look) My Glock will be up next. Only took about 30 min. to knock this out. Made a big difference on the 1st gen Steyr since it had no factory texturing at all.

Very nice, I have never been a fan of the crater look either. Care to expound on your slash method- Any tips. LOOKS GOOD! Reminds me of a more aggresive stock Glock texture

Genin, when I began viewing the pics, I had my doubts. I was wrong. Very clean job. I agree with the "critics" about the "crater look" (that is however what I employ), but yours is very uniform. Good stuff.

slash method = hold fine tip iron at about 45 deg and tap and drag (kinda like making a real short incision with a scalpel)- spread the slashes out and do about 1/3 of the target area and rotate 120 deg, repeat and then repeat again - this ensures all your little slashes are going in random directions

it actually looks like a rougher version of a Smith M&P

I'll admit, it looks NICE - I've got no problem working on my guns, swapping parts here and there, or taking trigger group out, but I'm not entirely sure I'd trust myself quite yet to do that.... I def like what you did, beats getting a hogue grip or decal grips that can come off - any tips. Only parts I'd want done are the side panels on the grip, the bottom of the trigger guard all the way to the frontstrap of the grip, and MAYBE the smooth area at the top of the backstrap where the webbing of your hand would be.

I hear you guys on the crater thing. I go very shallow with quick taps. Although I also think it looks better, I mostly do it because I am afraid going to deep with the stippling will cause some type of frame weakening. I'd consider mine more of a dimple than a crater lol.

My advice would be just to do it. I practiced on a vitamin container lid then did a polymer mag then just said screw it and did my own Glock. I've now done M&Ps, Glocks, XDms, Rugers, CZ, etc. Get a cheapo soldering iron and take your time. DO NOT let the iron rest on the polymer more than a quick tap or you'll burn deep. If you get good at it then it's an invaluable skill since you can stipple whatever you want and don't have to pay for it .

Yea that's what I was thinking about doing, just practiving on the magazine "speed loader they provide or on the factory case - so just quick taps in and out (like less than a half second) with a fine tip then? I really like the way your piece looks. Love the Gen3 frames but hate the Gen4's, even with the medium backstrap it doesn't feel the same. Maybe you should do a video of you stipling, so dudes like me will have a clue haha - like I said, I have no problem working on my Glocks, do everything except the sights now.
