Black Dawn AR-15
Does anyone here have any experience with the Black Dawn? I’m in the marketfor a custom AR that I can use to teach Law Enforcement classes with. I needsomething that is going to run anything I feed it and take a beating. I'mlooking at a flat top that has modular hand guards and a single point sling andan eotech.
Any and all input is welcome.
Thanks in advance.

My budget is right around $2,000 with optics. Black Dawn is new to me aswell. An officer I work with picked one up and it seems to be a real shooterbut I do not have enough trigger time on it and neither does he to make a decisionone way or another. http://blackdawnguns.com/They are located about an hour from KC and looking at going down on Monday to check them out.

Two words: Bravo Company.
Also, skip the single point. Put a quality, adjustable 2-point on it. VCAS or VTAC both come to mind.

No kidding, you can probably do a BCM rifle in your choice of configuration, Aimpoint or EOTech, VCAS/VTAC sling, BattleComp, and Geissele SSA for that kind of coin!

Hmmm out of Sedalia MO.
I've never seen their stuff at the gun shows in KC or anything. That seems odd.
Restocking fee of 20% on any unopened return order to, yikes.
The website has some odd design choices, and one of the product pictures is a snapshot of the item sitting on a leather couch. That always gives me pause.
I'd stick with BCM.

I'd pass. Like everyone else has mentioned, you can get a hell of a lot more gun for the money.
My suggestion, Colt 6920 w/ magpul funiture + an ACOG. That leaves you right at around your 2k price mark.
Or if you want a truly "Custom" AR, go with the Magpul'd Colt + Aimpoint Pro and get your gun hydro-dipped in whatever pattern you'd like.
Either way, i'd shy away from an unproven company like this for a price tag of 2k.

6920/LMT/DD with an AP or ET easily for $2K. I'd skip the Black Dawn, never heard of it but it sounds hokey.

I would get a Daniel Defense LE package if you are LE. You can choose from 3 different rifle, comes with sights, Bushnell Tac 30 red dot, 6 pmags, and a rifle case. All for around 1500 dollars. This leaves a lot of money left over for ammo.

Well thanks everyone for the input I definitely have got other options to look at now. I need ultimate reliability something that will preform when asked to.

For teaching, use what your students are using.

Or at least something similar in function and setup. If an LEA came through that issued DPMS, I certainly wouldn't run out and buy one to teach them with. Use something quality and maintain it, as an instructors weapon malfunctioning can be an unnecessary distraction.

Then I would suggest DD or Bravo Company. Honestly I would suggest a mid-level BCM build - quality, but still within budget range for many (maybe even most, if they tried) cops that might be forced to buy their own rifle or improvements. A BCM 16" middy with a CTR or similar stock, MOE handguards, a quality light (The VTAC L4 combos come to mind), fixed front and folding rear sight, and an Aimpoint PRO. Top it off with plenty of PMAGs and a VTAC or Vickers sling, plus other minor items of preference (personally, Gunfighter charging handle and grip set) and call it good.

If I were going to be teaching cops I wouldnt bother experimenting with non proven guns.
Why not just follow the KISS concept (keep it simple......) and just buy a Colt LE6920 with what ever accessories you feel yo need and call it a day? The "Colt M4" configuration has been proven in combat for over a decade. How much combat field testing has Black Dawn had?

I agree to sticking with something proven. Get a BCM, and skip the EOTech and get a Aimpoint Pro.

You are setting an example with everything that you do. Your rifle should be a proven one, set up simply, and not so hoity, toity that your students think that they need to spend mega bucks to have a solid rig.

I am just wanting something that is gonna last a while with failures at zero. I need a weapon system that will eat anything I feed it.
