Actually, as far as I recall from my AMU days, Crazyasian's answers 2, 3, and 4 are accurate. Seals are also into covert action (sort of like delta force), but have a Navy lineage: frogmen --> UDT's --> Seals. So their operations usually launch from ships or involve swimming.

It probably wasn't taken seriously because it's so well known it's like asking what a Senator does - why wouldn't you just google it or look at Wikipedia or read the 1,000,000 books written by members of each.

Raids and ambushes are the meat and potatoes of the 75th Ranger Regiment. I served a little over a year with them. They are the most professional and highly trained Army infantrymen in the world.

You missed Force Recon, USMC.

Older than the Seals, Jumped trained, regular, HALO, HAHO etc.

Scuba trained, Submarine trained.

Can do everything the SEALS, Rangers, etc can do.
