Good for her glad she was okay. I hope to teach my son gun safety and how to use one when he is old enough.

Furthest thing from brave, its says she was hiding in a closet and shot when someone was trying to open it. What if it was her mother trying to get in to see if she was safe. Did she shoot an un-armed man? I say she was dam lucky she didn't kill anybody.

I'd imagine that if it were her mother trying to open the closet door, that it would have occurred to her to identify herself knowing that her daughter was inside with a gun and all.

And what does the burglar being armed (or not) have to do with anything in this scenario? He kicked a door in to gain entry to the house. Should the daughter have ascertained his intentions with a survey of sorts?

Oh Lord, where to start? She did what she was told and, evidently to some degree trained, to do. Under the circumstances I suppose that must have taken some courage, yes.

Here's a real likely scenario: Mom tells the kid to get a gun and hide in the closet. Then Mom goes to open the closet door without saying anything first. YEAH, RIGHT!

Whether the man was armed or not, no one is going to fault a 12 year old girl for shooting an adult male intruder who is in the process of finding her hiding place. Especially if Mom told her to do just that.

Finally, it is the intruder who is lucky she didn't kill him. Her conscience would be clear in any event.

In the absence of information to the contrary, I'm going to assume she shot him with one. I understand they're quite popular this time of year.
