I have two Rolexs, two Tags, and several other "high end" watches but the one I've been wearing most lately is this Marathon TSAR. Outstanding build quality, extremely rugged, and phenomenally accurate.

These days, expensive watches are nothing more than status symbols.

I always wear a casio. They're cheap and they tell time and have all the features I need for various Army stuff (world time, stop watch, timer, etc.). I bought my last 2 on Ebay, to get them even cheaper. When not doing Army stuff, I like the wave ceptors because I like my watch to be exactly right.

I agree with hogship - expensive watches tell time the same as my casio or not as well. I don't need status symbols in watches, cars, guns or anything else, so I just stick with the ones that work.

I've got this same watch, purchased from the Navy Exchange way back in 1983. I had a local guy do some work (disassemble, clean, oil, rebuild, etc) three years ago and though it keeps good time again, I'm not to happy with how it looks.

Yours looks as if you've had some cosmetic work done (case polish, crystal replacement) and as you're in Tampa (I'm in Orlando) who did you use? Someone local, or Bob Ridley, Jack at IWW, or someone else?

I don't mind spending the money for a professional rebuild due to the fact that I've had this Seiko this long and she's served me well.

Thanks for your time, and great watch! Thanks for sharing (again).

Cheers!
Bill

The Seiko 6309-7049's are vintage collectible a now so be carefully who does your repairs. I took mine in for a repairs, a new crystal, a cleaning and to have my new band put on. When I got it back 3 weeks and $200.00 later, the guy put the wrong crystal in it, changed the hands and face, (they didn't even match) and he put an old used Seiko band on it. I was pissed as it felt like someone stabbed me in the chest. Also found out it would change date at 3 o'clock instead of midnight.

I took it to Ackermans Jewelers in Tampa and explained what the guy at the mall did. They said there repair guy is a Seiko guy, and sure enough he fixed it right for $90. And he only took a week. I already had a new Seiko band, and replaced the dial on my own, but Ackermans put in the right crystal, and matched the hands to the face. He also fixed the date.

The Seiko 6309-7049's were only made for the US. The other countries got the 6309-7040 which is identicle. But the 7049's for some reason go for more money.

If you got Jewelery that is sentimental like my watch, I suggest that you take it to a Jeweler or watch shop that's business is based on reputation and not foot traffic. Ackermans did my right. The one at the mall screwed me good.

I've got a citizen watch that I've had for years. Only wear it when I dress up a bit.
