My first Glock
So last weekend I traded in a Browing BPS 12 ga. that has sat in a case for 10+ years and a Rugar P94DC and pickied up my first Glock. Got a Gen4 M23. Haven't even shot it yet, but I'm excited! I've completed my CCW and I'm not 100% percent certain about carrying yet. I have a 2 year old son and he is always courious of new things. I might need to wait until he understands a little more before I start carrying. Any thoughts on that topic? Anyways, I'll be around to grow my knowledge on Glocks. I have a basic knowledge of firearms, but looking to make them a bigger part of my life. Down the road a nice distance target rifle will be in the works for sure. Enough rambling!

What am I missing? why wait to carry, because your son is 2? whats that have to do with it? if you did not get your CCW to protect the ones you love, why bother?
I have a 11 and 14 year old and have been carrying long before they were born, and they have no idea, that is the way i prefer it.

At this point if the gun is not on your person in a holster, then it should be in a safe.

Update...I love my G23 Gen4! I only have about 300 rounds through it so far, but just love it. The only thing I hate about it is that it isn't as cheap as a .22 to shoot. I CC whenever I leave the house. I can't carry at work so to and from I don't CC. All other times its with me. I have a Galco IWB holster and like it. When I carry all day on the weekend it can get a little uncomfortable and I'm looking to pick up a white hat max tuck holster soon for those long day CC. I haven't had a single issue with my son and his curiosity. He's never once noticed it. I'm 38 and I now realize how vulnerable I was in the past. I feel more responsible now being that I can protect my family if need be. I look forward to participating in defensive handgun classes. I don't know why it has taken me so long to CC. It's now a part of my life!

I can't carry at work, either. So mine stays locked in my glove box with its holster until I leave work. It goes back on then.

He will. As Creatism said above, if it's not in your holster, it should be in a safe. Eventually, your son will get curious.
Never too early to start teaching him. A good time is when you're teaching him about safety in general -- y'know, about fires, not licking the electric outlets, not jumping off the roof, not touching the knobs on the stove, and stuff like that. If you bring up firearms then, he'll see it in the proper context as one more thing to be careful of. He'll develop a respect for firearm safety without being paranoid about firearms.

And it's a "Life Changer", too.
It's a heavy responsibility. There are the defensive handgun classes you mentioned. Plus range time for basic marksmanship. And then there are all the legal considerations. And the moral considerations. Heavy thinking. You also need to expect that -- unless you're a sociopath -- some form of PTSD will probably follow a defensive shooting. Along with a possible arrest and an expensive jury trial. Carrying is a huge responsibiity and all this stuff bears a BIG a look-into.
