a glock in the 5.7 FN round
wouldn't it be nice to see glock chamber the 5.7 round in a frame the size of a 21 platform. think of the capacity. the potential for law enforcement to penetrate soft body armor , no need to change holsters and equipment. would make a nice concealed carry caliber, obviously in a smaller package , glock 30 size? if more manufactorers produced more weapons for the caliber the round might be produced more and come down in price a little.

No interest at all. LEO interest in the round is extremely minimal from the cost issue alone.

I think it's at least a novel idea. It's something I would be interested in trying out someday, but I doubt it will ever come to fruition.

I'm not really interested in such a big blocky gun that shoots such a tiny round. Maybe if Glock came out with a 17,19,26 sized gun in 5.7 at the same price point I would pick one up for kicks. Honestly I have next to no interest in the 5.7. Glocks time is better spent improving their current lineup and if they want to come out with some slimmer guns that the market currently wants IMO.

Uh, no.
Pretty much a non-starter for American LE interest & usage.

Grip would need to be longer than the 21.
Not interested at all.

A 5.7 in a Glock?
Kind of like sticking a 3hp Briggs & Stratton lawnmower engine in a school bus- lots of noise, minimal effect.
Might as well do it in .22 Magnum and it'd sell a lot better, too.

The 5.7 is like Glock's 45GAP. There is nothing it does that another round cant do better. FN's FiveseveN only holds a few more round then a Glock 17. And as far far as armor penetrating, how often is a BG wearing body armor. Don't get me wrong I'm all for advances of it helps saves lives. FN's 5.7 round and HK's 4.6 round were designed to accomplish a result that NATO's solid projectile called for. Since on the streets HP ammo is allowed and used, they just don't have a purpose.

You are correct. Glock wouldn't produce a whole new longer-gripped frame just for this odd caliber.

Yes, the .22 magnum comes to mind, but Glock would never make one. The rimmed case makes magazine design somewhat tricky.

Now the 10/22 has a rotary magazine. Could they somehow get the bottle-necked 5.7 into the rotary magazine?

Yep, give them even more rounds to miss with faster. I doubt you ever see wide spread use of the 5.7 anywhere.

Put the 50rd magazine under the stock. (flip a FN P90 over basicly)
Make bench shooting easy with the mag under the stock.

I wonder how much 5.7 ammo costs?

I was reading about the RIA .22 TCM and that sparked my interest much more. It is a .223 case shortened and necked down again (40grn .224 bullet). The RIA is a 9mm 1911 the only mod to the gun is the barrel. It clocks about 2100fps and cases are reloadable and could be made from .223 cases if unavailable. Recoil is said to be about 1/3 of a .45acp.
So I would have to assume an aftermarket barrel would make this work in a glock also.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but what is RIA?

Rather than the 5.7x28, how about 7.62x25?
I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

Same deal, it is too long for any current model action. There have been kluges to get 7.62x25 into 1911 and G21 but they are not great.
And worse than the 5.7, nobody is likely to tool up for a new gun so you can shoot cheap surplus with the market for it likely to dry up when the surplus dries up.

RIA - Rock Island Armory - a Phillipine company mainly known for their M1911-series offerings.
A 5.7mm has no interest to me in a Glock - but a .38 Super or SC might be fun.
