Rock Island 1911

I checked out a RIA 1911 the other day and I actually liked it. I still really like the R1, but the RIA seems to be a good starting point for a first 1911 that I might build on. That being said, the new RIA logo is hideous. I can't believe they would put that on a gun, especially a 1911.

Anyone else think its a heinous logo? Know where I can find one with the old logo?

I've seen worse, but I don't care for it either.

Take at look at the High-Standard GI 1911. It's a re branded RIA with a better looking roll mark.

I hope I can find one with the older rollmark. That would be nice.

It's not a rebranded RIA. It's a gun that ARMSCOR of Phillipines made for High Standard.

RIA is not a manufacturer but an importer and they import guns made by ARMSCOR. As are High Standard, Cimmaron, and a host of other brands.

So he was correct. A High Standard is a RIA, since both are importers only and the firearms are manufactured by the same manufacturer.

I love it when someone proves someone right by telling them they are wrong.

No, a High-Standard is an ARMSCOR made for High Standard. An RIA is an ARMSCOR made for RIA.

For example, RIA have models with additional knick knacks that High Standard doesn't.

All of these guns are rebadged ARMSCORs.

English, if you're an American, then learn it.

I was right and he was wrong.

Neither RIA nor High Standard can "rebadge" anything since that they don't produce the guns.

There are actually three Rock Island roll marks that I've seen. The deep lettering, very light/faint lettering, and the new one.

I thought the High Standard Covert was great-looking gun (basically a RIA Tactical) but they seem to have dried up.

Take a look at Metro Arms (Bersa on BUD's) American classic II. They are also made in the PI but not by Armscor. Nice fit and finish. It has the basics I wanted and accuracy is superb. Price seems to be slightly lower than RIA. I got mine for $430 OTD it has a combat style hammer trigger, extended controls, novac style sights. Rollmark simply says American Classic which is kind of funny, being made in PI.

RIA is not really a company but the brand name for guns imported by Armscor's U.S. subsidiary based in Nevada known as Armscor Precision International (API). From what I have read, API is owned by the same family that owns Armscor

I've thought about getting the nickle one for a truck gun. Still thinking actually.

My friend with the LGS showed me a new Metro. At first glance quite nice, but had a badly canted front sight. He sent it back and vowed no more PI guns. He likewise won't touch AO or Regent. Now if I could only get him to swear off Paras...
