Aguila .223

I purchased some Aguila 55 gr FMJ ammo last week for around $16 for a box of 50. I figured it was definitely worth giving a try as reviews seemed mostly positive. My test rifle was a Stag Model 1. Shooting from a bench at 100 yards produced mediocre results. I shot 5 and 10 shot groups. Most of them were around 3 or 4 inches. This ammo would definitely be good enough for "plinking" but for that matter why not just get Wolf Military Classic at a lower price? The only real advantage I can see over cheaper ammo is that if you reload you can save the Aguila brass.

So if anyone is thinking of buying Aguila don't expect anything amazing. However, if you reload this may be a good alternative to the cheap steel case ammo.

If anyone else has had better results with Aguila out of a similar rifle I'd be interested to know.

You had 4-inch groups at 100 yards with open sights? I wouldn't complain.

With Federal XM193 I got closer to 2 inches.

Standard carry handle. Used solid bench rest. Pretty normal stuff for an AR at 100 yards.

I would have a lot of fliers at 100 yards if I were using iron sights!

I like the aguila, good extraction and it goes bang every time, but I've never precisely measured group sizes. At class, I usually get around 2-2.5 moa with federal, american eagle, or any other brass that I've tried, in the prone position, in the dirt. I don't imagine there would be too much difference for the aguila.

I shot some of this stuff yesterday. Reliable and clean but not very great accuracy. But not as bad as the Remington 55 gr. FMJ I also shot. That stuff sucked.

I wonder - does anyone make match-grade .223 ammunition?
