My new AR-15
I just picked up my new Windham Weaponry AR-15 and I cant wait to take it out and shoot it. This rifle looks solid and you can tell Windham is making a quality rifle. Sorry for the poor quality pics.....

They are made by the folks who used to be Bushmaster. Good write up about them in the Oct issue of the NRA magazine.

I just bought my first AR last week, a Colt M4 Sportster. I haven't had time to clean it up, but ordered 1K of 55 gr .223. Fun times ahead! DOC

I have a Bushnell red dot on order that is due to be delivered today. I had an EOTech in the past and it was great but i couldnt justify the cost vs reward so i sold it and decided to go with a less expensive sight. I kill paper so the EOTech was little bit of overkill. Even if it did look great on my previous AR. I am also going to switch out the pistol grip for a Hogue grip and may add quad rails and a forward handle but i'm still on the fence on that. I really like the weight of the rifle as is. The rifle was $819.99 plus tax ($887.64 out the door) and the rifle came with the Diamondhead flip up rear sight which is a $130 sight at some online retailers. I'm impressed with that as the Magpuls are alot cheaper. The flag on the mag well is put on there by WW as part of an exclusive agreement they have with Cabelas.

Congrats. I liked the WW a friend of mine has when I tried it out a couple weeks ago. Solid solid rifle IMO, and the price is hard to beat as well

Be prepared to be let down a bit, if you don't have your expectations set properly. There is no other reticle as nice and crisp as the 1MOA dot with an Eotech.
100 yards shots with an Eotech are as easy as your vision is good. With a 3-5MOA Bushnell, perhaps not so much.

i agree on the EOTech and i loved it but when i factored in the cost/reward vs how often i shoot and at the distances (usually 100 yards max), i think the Bushnell will serve me well. But i did really like the 512....i'll post results after this weekend.

For the price I would have gone BCM or Colt, but at least you didn't get a DPMS.

Where can I buy a Colt $867 out the door. And aside from the name, can you site specific examples of why Colt or BCM are better? Better steel? Better barrels? Better aluminum in the receivers? Better fit and finish? Do you own a Colt or BCM and a Windham? Having personally never owned a Colt or BCM, I guess I dont understand how they are that much better than a Windham or PSA (which I also own).
I did own a DPMS as my first AR and it never failed me once. Having said that, yes I do understand the difference in DPMS vs some of the other brands.
Windham is making solid rifles and I believe they will compete with anyone out there. They may be a “new” company but you can tell they know what they are doing and that they take a lot of pride in the product they put on the shelf. For the features it has and how its made, I think the price is great. And with a small details such as a Diamondhead rear sight thrown in that retails for $130 or a laser engraved American flag on the side of the lower receiver its even better. They may be small details, but they add up.
They could skimp on the product to save costs but I don’t think they do that at all. Heck, they could put a UTG back up sight on it instead of one that cost 10 times that amount or even a Magpul but they don’t. And if they don’t skimp on something as simple as a rear sight, I have complete confidence in the quality of every aspect of their rifle. And owning a PSA carbine too, side by side, I think I like the fit and finish of the Windham better.
I’ll know a lot more after I shoot it this weekend but I don’t anticipate any problems with it. Sorry for the rant but the above post got me riled up this morning. I guess I shouldn’t have had so much coffee before I read it.

From what I am to understand, Windham Weaponry ARs are mil spec., just like Colts and BCMs. 4150 barrel steel, MP/HP tested bolts & barrels, M4 feed ramps, etc., etc.
One very nice thing, is that they use a 1/9 twist rate, which is damn near impossible to find in a 4150 chrome-lined barrel. Most are 1/7.
For the price the OP paid, he did very well.
ARs aren't that hard to make, and I'm SURE the people at W.W. are damn happy to have jobs again, so hopefully they're paying close attention during assembly.

No staking on the end plate, doesn't indicate F marked front sightbase. Do you need it? Prob not, but you could get it for the same money. Batch tested bolts on top of that. Colt holds a much better resale value.
Like I said, at least he didn't get a DPMS.

I just don't get it, why some folks just feel the need to poop in someone else 's thread. The guy got a new gun, he's excited, and just wanted to share. He didn't ask you the typical "How did I do?" If he did, by all means, go for the "I would have got the Colt/BCM/Noveske/DD blah blah blah". Unbelievable!

I may be naive but why would you want the end plate to be staked? My PSA has the castle nut staked and i find it to be a pain in the arse and see no need for it. My DPMS wasnt staked and it was easy to change the stock from a standard stock to a 6 position stock and even easier to put on a single point end plate for a sling. I imagine if I wanted to change the stock on my PSA that it would be less than easy to do. Just wondering why you would stake one.

Because most people don't want the stock loosening up under sustained fire or heavy use.

According to an American Rifleman magazine article from March of this year, the authors writes "So it's a real pleasure to report that the company’s rifles show all the promise needed for it to become a top contender in the AR market place." I thinks thats pretty nice praise regarding the company and its product.

Plus its cheap insurance against the castle nut not being torqued properly.
Also, if you're removing the castle nut to change a carbine stock, you're doing it wrong. The only time it comes off is for a new end plate, or replacing the buffer tube.
