Finally Arrived and I Had to Share!

It's been nearly 8 months, but the Ed Brown Kobra full size I ordered back in February has finally arrived! Can't wait to take it to the range tomorrow and put it through its paces!

Congrats. That's a hell of a piece you got there.

Thanks. I'm planning on running a few hundred rounds through it tomorrow, combination of Georgia Arms 230 grain ball and some Federal 230 grain HST (non +P).

If she runs half as good as she looks, I'll be one very happy camper!

I'll post a follow-up on how things go!

Thanks for the kind words. I just got back from the range a couple of hours ago and it went GREAT!

Fired 250 rounds through it without a single hiccup of any kind, and the accuracy was spot-on. It ate Federal HSTs like candy and also went through a hundred or so bulk reloads from Georgia Arms without a hitch.

Interestingly, the percieved recoil was noticeably less than with my Ruger SR1911. I'm guessing this is due to the additional precision in the Kobra's slide/frame fit (bac1023 or one of the other true 1911 Gurus could likely explain this in detail). I have to say I've never fired a 1911 that had a slide function as smoothly as this Kobra, and I've done a good bit of shooting with semi-customs, to include Wilson CQBs and a Nighthawk Talon. I can honestly say I now understand what some shooters are talking about when they describe the "set on ball bearings" feel of an Ed Brown's action.

All I can say is that the cost and the 8 month wait was well worth it! Mark me down as a very happy customer!

So glad to hear it man! I'm sure she'll give you and your family generations of accuracy and fun!

I've fondled an Ed Brown at the LGS and felt the silky smoothness of the slide action. It was unreal.

Mark me down as JEALOUS!

Congrats again. One day I will join you.

Had a nice, rainy day here in Houston today so I took it out to the range and put another 150 rounds or so through it. Happy to report still no malfunctions or hiccups. I will say, however, that I personally prefer the Wilson 47D mags I've got to the Ed Brown 7 and 8 round Magazines I ordered with it. The 47D mags just seem a bit more solid and I like the 'feel' a bit better when loading them. The pistol doesn't seem to care one bit and runs them both just fine, but I think I'll stick with Wilson when it comes to magazines going forward.

I did have a 'gun range commando' who was in the lane next to me compliment my groups, which was nice, but then he went on to spend a few minutes explaining to me that I needed to buy an XD or a Kimber if I wanted to get something I could really count on. His general gist was "1911s just don't function reliably, unless you get a Kimber, and that'll run you over $1000". I just told him that XDs are nice pistols and Kimber does some good work, too, and I left it at that. (wasn't in the mood for a 1911 debate!)

It seems there's always an armchair Green Beret somewhere in the room!

That's a classic story. Congrats on a great looking gun...even though it ain't a Kimber.
