New Ruger SR22 Range Report

A lot of you know that I've been posting in other threads here about deciding between a Walther P22 or a Ruger SR22. Well, I went with the Ruger and finally had it at the range today. So, here's how it went... I put about 350 rounds through it using three different types of ammo:
*Federal Lightning 40 gr. lead round nose: Had several failures to feed & failures to eject.
*Federal AutoMatch 40 gr. lead round nose: Fed and fired perfectly, but produced a lot of smoke.
*CCI Mini-Mag 36 gr. Copper-plated hollow points: Fed perfectly without any problems. This seemed to be the best.

As far as getting the sights dialed in... no problem whatsoever. It was dead on right out of the box... didn't have to touch 'em. Fired slow, well placed shots
The double action trigger pull is a little heavy as to be expected, but the single action was smooth and easy.
This thing fired like a champ. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, little, dependable plinker. I've got a cheap little laser sight for the accessory rail coming soon.

I agree, picked up a SR22 with Crimson Trace Rail Master and so far it has had no problems shooting CCI Blazer ammo. Taking it to the range today for some more plinking...

How do you like the SR22 with the laser sight? I ordered one from Sportsman's Guide, but is back ordered until the beginning of October. Looking forward to trying it with the laser. Are you able to see it all in daylight?

Really have not tried it in full daylight, took it to local gun range today and I like it, but just like any red light laser, in full sun they can hard to see. I picked mine up at The local gun show(norfolk VA) dealer was Trader Jerry's, they had about six of them when we first got there and was looking around, by the time we walked around checking prices with the other dealers, they were down to one, so we bought it, the price was right $359.99, while one dealer had them for $419.99 at the show, Trader had the lowest price.. We have another show next at VA Beach next weekend, will be looking to pick up some extra mags along with some more ammo....

Isn't funny how the price of the Crimson Trace is the same price as the gun itself....

I think the cheapy one I bought is only about $35 or so.

My Ruger SR-22 didnt feed well with Federal bulk, functioning flawlessly on CCI minimags though.

I found my solution, before each range session, Id put 2 drops of LP on the rails, one on each side. Now it feeds federal bulk like a champ, 550 rounds in one session without a failure.

I picked mine up week before last, it ate the Walmart Winchester 555 round 36gr hollow points with only 5 duds out of 555. This was an ammo issue as I spun the round 180 degrees and all 5 went bang. Shot 100 CCI minimags 36gr and they were perfect. Shot 250 Winchester Wildcats 40gr roundnose and they were perfect. Did have a couple of FTF's, but they were my fault, not getting the mag fully seated.

Mine seems to like to have a little "extra" lube in the rail area also. Cleaned it up once and forgot that area when i put it back together. When i went out the next time to shoot, it gave a little trouble with feeding. Took it apart and discovered my error, lubed it up, and fine after that!

I have to admit, I didn't field strip, wipe down or lube anything after I brought it home from the shop and before I first took it to the range. I still need to give it a good cleaning and lube before I get back to the range. But since it performed well the first time out of the box, I'm thinking a little lube will make it even better.

Weak ammo produces weak results in most cases, some 22's will eat anything even if you barely clean it, others are picky. In my experience, using higher velocity rounds in all of the guns that I use have always had the best results. Even thought they cost a bit more, they have proven to be more accurate and reliable.

I have had my SR22 for over a month now, 500 rounds through it, and no problems. Great little plinker.

I've got 1,100 rounds through mine. It didn't seem to like the Winchester 555 bulk stuff. But, it did well with everything else I've tried.

I put another couple hundred through mine.

As before, I now put an extra drop of LP on the rails, and zero problems. I ran Blazer, Winchester, and Federal through it with no issues.
