Overpriced RRA Operator. Other options?
My buddy picked up a DD AR15 a few months ago at a gunshow for about 1250 OTD. After shooting with him for the first time i fell in love and knew i wanted an AR bad! Especially with elections around the corner.
I was at the LGS last night and almost purchased my first AR. RRA Operator for 1199.99. With tax and everything it comes out right under 1300.00 with no accessories + ammo. All the workers kept telling me how well the RRA Operator is and a great value. A bit heavy compared to my friends DD but I felt like 1300.00 was just TOO MUCH!
I asked to see there Colt 6720 or 6940 but they had none in stock. They said the operator is the last one they have and could be months before they get another one.
Do you guys agree 1300 is a bit much? My budget for my first AR15 is stay less than 1400! I may just wait for the next gun show...
What I want in an AR15? Something for defense, if say the world was coming to an end type scenario...and of course, just to shoot for fun.

Yep, way overpriced! Why don't you just get a DD AR from online vendors?

I guess it's just the hassle of waiting and not being able to see/hold the gun before making a huge purchase. But i guess, to save money and get the best possible, online purchase or gun show is the way to go..

OP, you can get a Daniel Defense online for that price all day long. Pass on that way over priced RRA and let some other slob waste his money on it. A Colt can be had online for less than a grand @ DSG Arms and you can spend the rest on mags and ammo.

My advise, Don't buy a firearm when the dealer says it's the last one in stock, and that they don't know when they'll be getting anymore in.
I have three RRA AR's, and I like all three. But I wouldn't buy one just because it's the last one on the shelf. I would check out a few more shop's and rifle's before you buy.
Gun shows are a great place to check out a bunch of different maunufacture's AR's and not to mention the different model's each one makes.
I would look at the top three recomended brand's and model's within your price range, and finger bang every one you can get your hands on. then go with the one that feels right.
Have fun shopping, and don't fall for the "it's the only one in town" ploy.

And by the way, RRA has their Operator2 MSRP listed at $1,000.

Do you have a Dicks near you..
They are carrying the TROY carbine.
I Shot a friends and it is a great deal.. Very accurate Troy Sights rails grips at a 1099.00 and you get 10% offf if you get a dicks card when you buy it..
It is a 1x7 true M4 ramps melonite barrel BCG looked good well staked Oring and insert...
Finish very nice a TROy muzzle brake or comp and the TROY stock, it looked big but felt fine shooting wand had good cheekweld.

OP, where are you located in NC? Depending on area, I might be able to point you in the right direction.

As stated WAY overpriced for a RRA....my first RRA was $900. Entry Tactical....great gun...but only if the price is right. Lot's of great suggestions as alternatives. Good Luck.

you made a good move passing on the RRA at that price. Rock River makes good AR's but 1199 is what you can buy a Colt 6920 for. take your time and shop around and i'm sure you'll find a reasonable priced AR be it Rock River, Colt, DD or some other quality brand. don't be afraid to order something on-line because all AR's more or less feel the same but some come with more goodies than others. good luck with your search and don't be afraid to walk away or ask advice.

To much for a RRA. I agree with the others, just order online. I've got two DD rifles and love them. A V7 LW would be my pick of the litter right now. A 6920 or pin together a BCM would all be great choices. All are a head above the RRA.
