mil surp. wc844 powder

Well I've burned through my first few pounds of win 748 for .223. Boy that didn't take long.

I might have to invest in a faster press just to keep up with the AR, that thing gets hungry.

I was going to give Tac a try because it seem's to be a big hit with others loading .223. But then I ran across the wc844 military powder which would add to my savings. So has anyone used this powder before and how did you like it. I'm loading mostly 55gr pinking stuff in a 16" ar but would like to load some 77g SMK's also. Thanks for your help.

It's oustanding powder. Use H335 data. I found a sweet load with Hornady 55 FMJ and 24.0 grains.

Is this stuff in white gallon jugs from Pat's reloading?

Yea thats the only place I could find it. The stuff widners shows is in a black jug. Whats up with that?

Is there a difference between the white jug from pat's and the black jug from widener's or is it just the packaging.

Have no idea. It's plausible that both sourced the same powder and put in their respective packaging.

WCC 844 surplus is a pretty straight forward item with only lot variations being the difference.

I ordered wc846 from Pat's. No experience with 844. I was going to use 846 for 223 and 308. Good luck.

I read a huge write-up on the difference between 844 and 846 and the thing that didn't look too good to me was that the 846 is almost identical to the 844 with the addition of a substance, and I can't remember what it was, to slow the burn rate down. But, at the same time the substance was linked to premature barrel/throat erosion. And I think if I remember right 846 was super close to BL-C(2) and you can use the same data. Double check that though.

I have loaded a lot of 223 with WC846 and use the BLC-2 load data.

I am going to try some in 308 also for some 147 gr fmj's
