Lint Balls...

After coming home from shopping I looked at my pocket pistol (p-32) and broke it down for a cleaning. Packed with lint and cat hair, the grease (militec) looked like dirty ear wax. Thank goodness I haven't needed it for an emergency. All cleaned up and lubed again. I'm sure I just did this a few months ago.tom.

From the title I thought it was a political thread or one about an ND.

I have done the same thing myself. I have had reason to discover the gun I am wearing at the moment has enough "stuff" in it to knit a sweater and I cannot get it out of my mind until I get it cleaned out.

I have a couple of cover garments (polar fleece generally) that fill nooks and crannies with lint.

That was one of the reasons why I sold my Sig P238. For some reason that whole area between the cocked hammer and the firing pin attracted dust and lint.

Great gun, but a lousy pocket gun.

Every couple of weeks I blow out the lint and fuzz from my carry with an air compressor. Then once a month, I do a field strip and clean it.

Carry a lot = lint catcher.

I tend to use revolvers for pocket carry, and use an air duster on them once a week or so.

I'm thinking poor design as well.

I don't think air will work.

My 642 doesn't work with this application.

Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you.

Cleaning a carry gun once every few months is unacceptable.

I usually shoot my carry guns first, just the way they are with their carry ammo, then clean them. That way, I know if they work all gunked up like that

Happiness is a clean gun but happiness is also knowing that the gun works fine with a couple of weeks worth of detritus.

Carry it few more weeks with a clean back-up and when it's full of lint test fire it. If it fires ok don't worry about it if it doesn't get another carry gun. A carry gun should function clean, dirty, full of lint or whenever you need it. That's why I carry a Glock.

Do you use a pocket holster or just drop it in your pocket?I use a cheap pocket holster that pretty much keeps most of the lint out ,though I do keep it cleaned also.

I do the same thing. Plus, it also helps me rotate through my carry ammo. Nothing worse than a clogged up gun shooting some rounds which have setback.

I don't use a pocket gun at all but I do keep my carry gun clean and in tip top shape.
I can't understand why one wouldn't considering your life depends on it functioning right.
I clean my carry gun every week.

I use a pocket holster with a closed bottom.
Problem solved, but i do clean periodically.

A while back I did a test trying to make a Makarov malfunction.
One test was filling the inside of the gun with "pocket lint".
No problem at all.

I doubt the normal amount of pocket lint that can make it's way into a gun would give any reliability problem.

I read a story about a guy who had to draw a pocket .380 and it didn't fire because of being gunked up with lint. Lint had gotten into the firing pin channel. He was lucky because the BG turned tail and ran at the sight of his gun.

Before I got rid of my LCP I carried it in a cheap pocket holster and never had any problem with lint getting into it.

OK, I give up. Your lint balls are bigger than mine.

I'm not saying you shouldn't clean you guns regularly. What I am saying is if lint stops it from working you need another gun for concealed carry. Suppose you clean your gun every Saturday but on Sunday you had it in a pocket full of lint, cat hair, and grit but didn't know it. You can't keep a gun perfect 24/7, I do not ever clean my guns until after I have shot them(other then wiping the outside down).I want to know they will function when I need them not after I have cleaned them.

Just for the record the P-32 is carried in an Uncle Mikes closed bottom pocket holster. I think I'm going to opt for cleaning every two weeks and see what happens. tom.

ETA the weather is changing so I'll be going back to a .45 in a belt holster soon.tom.
