Which gun would you grab?

So, which gun do you grab in a situation where you know you are probably gonna have to shoot somebody? I'm not talking about, Hmmm.... I just heard a noise downstairs, I wonder what it is? And you go clear your house but you aren't too worried yet. I'm talking about "Oh ****, this is real! We're not ****ing around anymore! Somebody is kicking in my door at 3:00 in the morning and I need a gun NOW!"

Personally, I'm gonna grab my G22 and plan on dumping the entire magazine that's in the gun and possibly any spares I have laying around. It doesn't really matter what ammo is in the gun at this point because I'm planning on using a bunch of them, unless he does anything other than run away as soon as he gets lit up with my flashlight. If I have good defensive ammo, great. If all I have at the time is cheap FMJ, well I have 15 of them on tap and that's probably how many I'm gonna use unless I'm given a good reason not to.

I would grab my AR-15 but I haven't fired it that much and I'm not totally convinced it's reliable, and thus will go bang when I NEED it to. I don't have a shotgun right now, otherwise I'd have it at the ready with a tube full of 00 buck and grab it without a second thought. The G22 is my choice because I know it's gonna go bang every time and put my shots where it's pointed, even though a pistol is not the best choice to actually shoot somebody with if you have a choice.

I'd grab whichever gun is on the nightstand, which rotates based on my mood. Tonight it's the SR1911.

I have a glock 23 in the night stand and a Benelli M3 with 3" OO buck also in the bedroom. Both are equipped with surefire x300's either one will work for me. If I'm downstairs next to the safe my options really open up...

Given my layout, location, and dogs it would be pretty hard to suprise us completely, For that reason my reaction would be with no thought in mind but that it was planned attack and I would be taking no prisoners and sparing no ammo. At that point my actual tool of choice would be whichever I laid hands on first applied with vigor. By coincidence, the wife and I are going out tomorrow for our "final shakedown" of my two latest applicants for the "nightstand gun" job. I have had a Sigpro 9mm with night sights and a light, but her results tomorrow (taking in to account the possibility of her using it) with my XDm .45 and G20 will decide which one gets the night sights and the job.

We will also be taking our shotguns and AKs out as well.

BTW I don't worry about her handling one of the big autos, her edc is a .45

My G26 is my EDC gun and it pulls nightstand duty as well. That is most likely what I'll have handy if I need something.

RIA 1911 stuffed with nice 230 gr. FMJ ball. If I'm really in the mood to make it interesting, I'll reach over for the M-1 Garand and a couple of clips of M-2 ball. That combination settled a lot of hash all over the world. It will work just fine on anyone trying to do the kick the door in routine on my house.

Small college apartment, front door is pretty close to the bed. I sleep with my Beretta PX4 .40 Fullsize on the nightstand, chambered and with an extra magazine for 29 rounds of 180-grain Speer Gold Dot.

In the other room I have an AR-15, Remington 870, LCP, and 10/22, but the LCP obviously isn't fit and the long guns are cumbersome in my small place. The Beretta runs like a Swiss watch, and I trust it. Hopefully it never fires a shot outside the range, but if it does it'll do well.

Happened a few weeks ago. Dogs went ballistic, heard a banging noise out front. I jumped up and grabbed my 870.

My flowerpot on the front porch had been knocked over and someone opened my screen door but took off when the dog barked, or they heard me chamber a round in the shotgun, not sure.

Inside the house I want nothing else but my 870 loaded with 27 pellet #4 buck.

I have a P220 with a TLR-1 on the nightstand for investigating a bump in the night. When its game time the 870 is first pick.

Same with me, I usually have a cz sp-01 with a streamlight. Only had to draw once, next time that maintenance guy is going to knock a bit harder before opening the door

My 1911 if I think it's only 1 person.
My Colt M4 if I think there's more than 1 person.

My Colt M4 if I am with my lady, so she can have my 1911.

I'd say either my EDC carry .357 magnum for familiarity, or Mossberg 500 with 00buck for pure stopping power. If you say I have to shoot someone and make it count the 12ga is the obvious choice, but I'm probably more likely to grab the closer and faster .357.

If I have the time, my Mossburg 500 pistol grip 12ga loaded with 2 3/4 Remington express #4 buckshot.

With less time, Beretta 96D vertec with TLR-1 and 165gr Corbon JHP.

It's interesting that a lot of us are picking handguns in the event someone is kicking in our door. I know I said I'd grab the G22 but that's only because I don't have a 12 gauge and my AR has been having light primer strike issues that I don't know whether to attribute to the gun or the ammo. If I had a shotgun, I'd pick that, same with my rifle if I knew it was working right. If I know I am gonna have to shoot someone to stop them from attacking my or someone I care about, I'd definitely rather do it with a shotgun or rifle if I had a choice.

I really would like to use the AR though. I get the feeling there isn't much you can't handle with a 30 round mag of XM193... Unless you're at a cabin in the woods and it's a large bear trying to get in. That's where you have a 12 guage and some slugs in the sidesaddle.

I'd grab my AR-15, and if I have time, toss my plate carrier on.

But I'd be pretty comfortable with just about any of my blasters.
