California Highway Patrol - Officer Down.
Officer Youngstrom was shot in the neck yesterday during a traffic stop at 8:20am...Broad daylight. He is in critical condition and the word I am getting is he is not expected to survive. A second CHP officer shot and killed the suspect.
Prayers out to Officer Youngstrom, his family, and the CHP.
Be careful out there!
Here is the most current info as of now:

Damn:
The CHP said the officer who was shot suffered a fatal wound that severed his spinal cord, but remained on life support Wednesday morning.
The CHP says there is "no expectation for the officer to survive." It will be up to the doctors and family to decide when to take the officer off life support.

As difficult as it will be, he will live on in the gift of his organs to others as well as the life he lived.

This.
I want out, and want my wife out, too. Unfortunately, there is nothing comparable out there as far as pay and benefits, so....we suck it up and forge ahead somehow. This job has eaten too much of my soul.

Kind of like on the internet forums - People continually flip someone off who they know is obligated to not break the rules in response. Yeah, usually that type of stupidity eventually yields the rewards that are earned.
And then there are those trying so hard to be offended that they're imagining things that haven't even been said in a thread.

Thankfully it only took a few cents to take care of this POS instead of thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars!

Down in SoCal somebody tried to take out another Chippie.
When I first heard he was shot in the neck I had hope it would be okay. That's the worst part of this job sometimes, we can't win them all.
RIP, brother.

The dashboard camera on his partner's car recorded what happened next. "Officer Youngstrom and Lacy had a short conversation and then without any warning, Lacy pulled out a gun and shot Officer Youngstrom in the head.

I almost think it would have been better if Officer Youngstrom and his partner should not have conducted the car stop, and just let this POS remain out on the streets. At least Officer Youngstrom would be alive today.
RIP Officer Youngstrom. Condolences to your family.
