Yep - I couldn't resist. Just pulled the trigger on the hammer forged 16" mid-length lighter profile upper. I couldn't resist. My first AR is almost a reality. God help me.

That 18" 6.8SPC upper is real tempting for a deer rifle, but I'd only shoot it a couple times a year at most because of ammo costs, and I already have deer rifles. Ah well.

I picked up one of the 18" 6.8 uppers for Florida hog and paper punching. I can't wait to get it.

I already have a 20" stainless on order from them for a prairie dog popper, been about a week so far. I think.

Nice. There goes about $300 I wasn't planning to spend this week.

Wish they had 300 Blackout uppers. I really want to try that cartridge. I like 6.8 too but the ammo just isn't coming down in price.

Same as everyone else seems to be going with, mid-length hammer forged lighter profile. That one also had the largest discount I think (EDIT: largest discount among the 5.56 uppers).
Looking forward to comparing how mid-length works compared to carbine length as far as recoil and such. I'll have to buy a new Magpul handguard though. I hope a middy doesn't make it too noticeably front heavy.
Now that I'll have a spare upper I may get a 300 Blackout barrel. I already have the tools.

OK guys, yeah saw this last night. Recommendations for someone who has never "built" an AR? (I've got a couple, but bought them as complete guns).
Which upper should I buy, and what else would I get to complete the gun? I'd rather not have to get a kit. Is the 16" mid-length light profile upper the way to go by consensus here?
And after more checking out, I'm a little more confused. Light vs. Lighter. CMV ?
Can you paste the link of what you'd recommend. I know I'll need to get a BCG and charging handle later, and I guess the lower too (wait til they're on sale? Or buy now?)
Thanks!!!
I'm looking at this one now... http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...ng-handle.html

Actually I think the 6.8 stainless had the best discount at $130. I already have the hammer forged middy or I would have got one of them instead of the 6.8.
You will be very happy with that upper

CMV = Chrome moly vanadium barrel. Basically just means "chrome barrel" I guess.

CMV does not mean chrome lined. CMV is a metal type and has nothing to do with chrome lining.

If anyone ordered one of these uppers over the labor day weekend sale please post a reply here when you receive it. Ordered mine on 8/31. I won't be surprised if it takes another 2-3 weeks minimum.

Well they state to allow 15 business days from the time you order to the upper being shipped.
I ordered one around the 20th and it shipped 13 business days later.

13 days is good but it was before this labor day rush. I got my order in fairly early though so we'll see.
I hate waiting!

The trick is to buy yourself something in the meantime to keep your mind off the wait!
