How to clean the GB barrel?

After years of neglect, I finally took the GB out and popped some rounds thru it...and rediscovered the ONE thing I hate about the GB.

Since it is ported, the top of the barrel gets incredibly fouled, and I have tried everything short of a Brillo pad to get that residue off the outside of the barrel.

What is the secret? I have tried Hoppes, Blue Wonder, CLP...in the past I remember soaking the barrel in a small bottle of Hoppes and may have to try that again...

Ideas?

Interesting

I don't know much about the GB, but mine is not ported.

when I owned my GB's I used a lead away cloth (I cut it in strips 1.5 inch wide). It takes a bit of elbow grease but it will get it clean. A small amount of flitz paste on a patch will work as well, but I prefer the Lead Away.

May have been a feature that was dropped since the barrel is not removeable, and the port creates such a mess...

Hmm..thx. Going to the LGS today, have to see if they have any. My fallback is a ScotchBrite pad...might be coarse enough to knock the crud free.
