S&W 27-1 357 8 5/8" questions

I got offered this pistol in trade today, and it seems to be in pretty good shape. I know some of these are collectible, but not much more than that. Can anyone throw a reliable ballpark value on it so I know kinda what I might be getting into?
It is a Smith and Wesson 27-1 .357 magnum with an 8 5/8" barrel. Comes with Original wooden presentation case. He says he is the original owner, has the original receipt and it has less than 200 rounds through it.
Thanks. Semper Fidelis.

I would say so from a numbers stand point alone.

Oh yeah. Definitely. A plastic gun you can get at any shop for a discontinued classic? No brainer.

Update. He's a bit old, and made something of a mistake. Evidently its a 27-2, not a 27-1.

Still a good deal by the numbers and values.

Not necessarily. The 8 3/8 inch barrel is the least desirable of the offerings. 3 1/2 inch most desirable, followed by the 5 inch, then the four inch, then the six.

They still sell for more than the G-26 He is thinking of trading, at least in my area.

I'd do it if I had two of the same Glock.

Not long ago I traded a G-19 and $200.00 cash for a 4", 29-2 and I thought I got a good deal. This would be even better.

Yea, the 8 5/8 inch barrel isn't the most popular barrel length, it's still a very nice gun. Around here most any "N" frame gun starts at $750.00 and go up.

It doesn't matter that it is the least desirable.

BTW for all you guys who think the 8 3/8" Smiths are worth less than the shorter barrels you need to start tracking sales. They are catching up.

Around here the 8 5/8 barrel guns are the least popular but would still sell for quite a bit more than a G26. The last decade or so N frames have gone up alot.

yes, even two 26s you always can get another 26 but the Smith are getting rare, plus is a great revolver.

Why not? Longer sight radius usually assists with accuracy and higher velocities, both good things to have. Don

No they aren't. You're wrong.

Prove it. Go to gunbroker and post the links (in this thread) of 27s that have been sold.

I keep an eye on it and they have been tracking up. I haven't the time or the inclination to do your homework however. You can be right if you'd like.

You're the one that needs to do some homework. You made the claim. Back it up.

FYI, I do track the 27s as I have them in the aforementioned barrel lengths.

Would I trade a Glock, any Glock, for a 27-2 in pristine condition w/8 3/8 inch barrel? In a heartbeat.

But the 8 3/8 inch barrel is nowhere near as desirable as the shorter barrel lengths.

You made the claim. You back it up. That's how it works.

Proving I'm right on GT is not a priority right now. Much better things to do. I think I'm ok with everyone here believing you. You can be right.

Apparantly you don't have things to do all that much better, because you're still posting.

I am using this thing called an iPhone. Ever tried searching gunbroker and copying and pasting links to another site? No thanks. Like I said much more pressing things to do.
