Fmj vs jhp

Mas,
I own a Kahr p380 which I am considering using as a back up gun to my regular carry weapons, a smith j frame and a glock 26. I understand the shortcomings of the 380 but if I were to use the p380 as a backup would I be better served to use fmj or jhp ? The jhp I am considering is the corbon pow'rball which feeds flawlessy in the kahr which as you know is a big issue with these small 380's. I live in Jacksonville and so heavy outerwear is not common. Also, blazer brass fmj feeds flawlessly also. I have looked at videos and discussions about penetration vs expansion, but am finding it difficult as a layman to make sense of it in the real world. Mas, thank you for your insights and your profound service to the armed citizens.

The curse of the .380 is that the expanding bullets don't usually reach the 12" depth that FBI specifies. The FMJ do, and more, but leave a puckered, narrow wound profile that has earned .380 a reputation over the last century as being on the feeble side.

A deep penetrating JHP like the 90 grain Hornady XTP .380 might be the best of the bad lot, at least in theory; I have no data on actual shootings with that load, however.

You can see why I go with .38 Special and 9mm...

Best,
Mas
