This is why I don't go Deer Hunting!

I would have nightmares about this and would always have a loaded gun on me when on my property!

I had a mule deer buck charge me after a lung shot. At that point, he was probably reacting to instinct.....fight or flee. He stumbled on his way towards me, and died where he fell.......it took about a minute. It gave me a little to think about, because you could tell he intended to take me out!

This incident in the story is entirely different, and hard to say what the buck was responding to.......but, it sure wasn't normal behavior........

I would venture to guess this one was a tame deer. Meaning someone tried to make a pet of it at some point for it to have no fear like that.

When asked how he would handle another aggressive animal on his property, Christianson responded, “I wouldn’t wait three days to get my rifle.”

The article said: Deer are normally afraid of people.

Cincinnati/Mongomery, Ohio must have the only strain of deer that are not afraid of people. You can walk right up to them and shout, they will stand and look at you.

I've seen deer put their hooves through a thick plastic door of a shed while goofing around, wouldn't want to piss one off.

Good Lord man. You need to be more worried about the politicians in your state than a deer.

After having a scary close call with a pack of dogs while i was unarmed many years ago, I am never unarmed on my own property. Or anywhere else it is legal to do so.

That's so funny. And so true.

Besides, it's about the 4th time this article's been posted.

Ohio isn't the only state for aggressive deer.

I had a large buck come out of a stand of corn, turn into the center of the snow covered back road, and face my truck with his legs splayed and head down horns pointed at me.

I stopped. 3 or 4 females came out of the corn, crossed the road, and went into the corn patch on the other side........ After they were gone he just turned and followed them. Don't think they are afraid here.

Same back road area. Came around a turn (very slow) and got stopped by a skunk facing me in the center of the road standing over some road kill. He made me wait until he lapped up the good stuff and left. Stink is dangerous.

That's the reason I never walk to a stand with an unloaded gun and will always have a spare handgun on me just incase. If I was just walking around on property at the very least I would have a snake gun.

I know the next time I go hunting I will have my g26 with a CCI shot shell as the first shot and then my normal carry load under it, biggest threat around here is snakes.

I recall a story a few years ago where a man was picking up aluminum cans on the side of the road. Guess the rattling cans and the rut were what triggered the buck to attack the man. I believe he died from the injuries.

Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory [gave] it an autopsy. They ruled out rabies and Lyme disease, but they did find a few parasites in its liver.
Didn't that happen in an X-Files episode? Has anybody checked back to see if Mark Christianson killed his wife later that night?

And my clueless sister in law recently moved to the suburbs of a large city, in a large Southern state, and feeds the danged things. I know her neighbors will just love her when they find out.

As a previous poster mentioned, it's the tame deer that are the real threat. Either hand raised, or in populous areas -- metro parks and such -- where they are desensitized to people.

No deer way out in the country where I am is really a threat unless it jumps in front of your car.

It's the same way with cattle -- I have one steer that was bottle-raised and the fact that he has no fear of people makes him a bit dangerous. It's not that he's mean, but when something that weighs more than 1,000 lb. gets frisky and playful like a puppy, that can turn out badly. Very badly. You have to be very strict to not let him start disrespecting your personal space. He's really useful as a herd steer, though: he comes when he's called, can be led on a rope, and the rest of the herd will follow along with him.

Not sure if serious.

Better check with Game and Fish on that, or they may own that AK.
