Can't Take The Slide Off-Help

I was shooting my new G32, Gen4 today at the range and was extremely pleased with it.

I had an OEM Glock barrel for a G22 with me and decided to swapped the two barrels and run some 40 S&W through it (never happened). I put the swapped barrel/slide back on the frame. There's the problem.

When I went to reset the action, I noticed that the recoil spring was not flush with the end of the slide and the trigger wouldn't reset.

I tried to take the slide off but it appears the recoil spring is hung up and it won't allow me to do that. Crap!

Any ideas on what the fix is for this? I've never ran into this type of problem before. I don't want to force anything until I know what I'm doing. Also, I notice that the end of the recoil spring that is place on the barrel lug looked a little tilted (maybe 10 degrees) at the time but not being familiar with Gen 4's, wasn't to concerned. Crap.

BTW, the G32 ran great!

If I understand correctly, the true barrel is in the proper slide, the recoil spring is "hung up" and the trigger will not reset.

Does the slide lock back? If so, lock it back (no mag inside), point the gun towards a mattress, and push down the slide release while holding down the slide lock, and while holding the trigger all the way back. It is possible the slide will fire off the frame.

Method 2: Hold down the slide lock while pulling forward hard on the slide (assuming the striker truly is released-- to test, shake the gun back and forth and listen for the free striker to rattle in the channel-- will not rattle if cocked).

Sorry I wasn't clear.

It has the G22 (OEM) barrel in the G32/4th Gen slide.

The barrel will go into battery but the recoil spring doesn't sit flush with the end of the slide, nor will the action/trigger reset.

I tried both of the methods you mentioned and neither worked... I'm wondering if I have a broken recoil spring.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Unlikely to break the gen4 recoil spring from what you have done. (the gen 4 spring is inside the gen 4 frame correct, not a gen 4 spring inside a gen3 frame-- I don't even know if that is possible? )

Put a tool inside the front of the slide to see if you can jimmy the spring into alignment. Or lock the slide back and manipulate the recoil rod sticking out under the barrel

What is catching? if it is truly not the trigger/striker, then keep trying method 2, while wiggling the slide perhaps. Ask someone to help you while you hold the slide lock down.

So you tried to put a Fullsize barrel (G22) in a compact frame (G32)? That is Glock No-No #1 right there - the locking lugs are cut differently.

You definitely aren't the first to do it but since I never have, I can't tell you how to get it off. Do some searches on the site and you will find the answer.

OK, I got it figured out.

I removed the rear plate of the slide, took the firing pin out the rear of it, held down the take the take down lever, and the slide came off the frame.

Thanks for all of your help. It had me baffled for awhile.

Just remember, if you want to shoot 40 out of your 32 you need a G-23 barrel
