I miss a good ole fashioned 9mm vs .45 debate
Can I see one of these, it's been a while, and I miss reading comments from both sides.
So which is gooder? 9mm or .45?

Better than that is the .40 Magnum, aka the mighty 10MM. It's able to change the earth's rotation just from doing a double tap.

I heard the .357 sig was gooder though because of the extra ft/lbs and hydrostatic shock n stuff?

Yea but I heard that it's almost impossible to find 10mm anywhere unless you reload, and the harsh recoil is why the FBI changed from the 10mm.

I shoot my .45 then immediately pick up my 9 to shoot the .45. It helps speed it up and thus make for more penetration and super expansion et cetera.
Sometimes, after having just watched the Daytona 500, I let my .45s draft off of my 9mms.
I shoot both. I really want a 10mm.

I don't get 45 at all, and I don't understand why so many think it's so great. I know I know"it's big" blah blah blah. " it's been around forever/ I love my 1911/ it's the best manstopper". Blah blah blah
Sure the bullet is wider but the velocities are so anemic that there is barely ever an impressive temporary cavity or energy transfer. You couple that with a big wide gun, low capacity, and expensive ammo(factory) you get a package that I have no interest in.
Im not saying 9mm is a better man stopper, but I would take a g19 over any 45 glock. IMO .40 and 357sig smash .45 in all around ballistic performance along with the choice of guns that they are available in with a higher capacity in a smaller package.
Ok now quote me and let me have it .45 guys

Just get your wife a .380 if she can't handle your 10mm.

Which is better, the 9mm or the .45 ACP? I honestly don't know. I've been shooting both since 1980. I've fired the rounds in a variety of handguns. I've used them to shoot lots of steel and paper targets, but never anything animate. So I can't offer an opinion based in experience as to the effectiveness of either round for SD/HD, etc.
When it comes to accuracy, the utility of either round is directly dependent on the quality of the firearm being fired. Overall I have found that the .45 ACP tends to be chambered in pistols that I find more user friendly that those typically chambered in 9mm. That is my experience. It may not be typical for all persons. But it is my experience.
So which is the best, the 9mm or the .45 ACP? I don't have a definitive answer. From what I've read, w/ FMJ ammo both are about the same. Again, from what I've read, with hiqh quality JHP ammunition, the .45 ACP may have a slight edge based on the tabulated results of SD/HD and police officer shootings.
I would be very comfortable with either round for CC/HD/SD. Currently I do not CC. I do keep a pistol for HD/SD. I use a RIA 1911 because that is what I prefer for the bedside table, etc. It is loaded w/ 230 gr. FMJ's. Later when things get better, I'll get some nice JHP's.

I'm partial to the .40 myself as I feel it has the best of both worlds.
Then again, some believe it has the worst of both worlds.......and they are wrong.

What I like about the 45, it's never smaller than 45. A good jhp in 9mm is fine, but there is a reason they put more ammo in the mags. In states w/ 10rd limits, would yo ucarry a 10rd 45 or 10rd 9mm? My XD45C is the same size as my G19, I still only get 10+1, I shoot the XD better than the G19, easy decision for me.

If you're looking for some "entertainment", the search feature oughtta bring up a whole slew of 'em. Not like they are a rare occurence and they all, in their course, offer the same info.

Haven't seen one in a while. I think I'll just post a new thread on it, since it's entertainment taken in real time, and not reading through archived pages. Who knows! Technology could have changed in the past year to make .45 better than 9mm or something.

Not too long ago caliber wars were heated and options limited.
With high tech ammo these days;
the difference between the best SD loads turns into splitting hairs.
And often deviates into specific situations like light barrier penetration.
The rules have changed and the playing field has been leveled.
Finding the best gun and caliber that you are most proficient with is the real challenge - IMHO.
