Tried out the CCI Quiet .22

Through a rifle they are very quiet. These actually sound like a pellet rifle. Through a pistol... still very loud. Nice round for quiet plinking, and accuracy is decent.

i've used them in handguns and rifles, nice for squirels.

Have you shot CCI Standard Velocity? I was wondering if there is any real difference cause they are pretty quiet already.

Haven't shot the CCI standard but I have shot CCI mini mag and the bulk federal stuff. The CCI mini mag and bulk federal ammo is about the same noise level. The CCI quiet is seriously like a pellet gun, it is very quiet ( through a rifle ).

Aquilla Super Colibri's avg 500FPS. No gunpowder, just the rim fulminate. You can hear the rifle hammer fall.

Absolutely not.

For most automatics, you need a minimum of about 850-900 fps with a 40gr bullet to reliably cycle the action.

But in a bolt action, or single shot rifle... it really can't get much more quiet than the Aguila Colibri. While the Super Colibri is rated at 500fps, the regular Colibri is only doing 375fps.

What's the difference (as far as noise) between Super and regular Colibri through a pistol? I've shot the Super Colibri's a few times from pistols.... If the Colibri is significantly quieter, that'd be awesome.

Yeah -- CCI CB shorts are my medicine of choice out of various Contender barrel lengths. I'd be curious to compare the sound signature of these rounds versus the CCI Quiets...

The 375 FPS Colibri once had a warning in tiny print to ONLY use in handguns due to the potential of a round losing energy and getting lodged in a rifle-length barrel.

That said, I've fired hundres of them through longer barreled rifles (Marlin 39A for example) with ZERO issues.

And on a very clear day, you can actually see the rounds exiting the muzzle!

They cycle my Sig 522 reliably and will cycle the Ruger Mk II sometimes.
Does CCI still make their sub-sonic?

The quiet rounds POA is much lower standard HV rounds.

The Colibris really are über quiet
I've used them in revolvers, so no issues there.

I agree!!

Don't be confused! There are much difference in these sub velocity rounds are NOT created equally!

Calibre's are a NO powder shooting a 20g bułlet at 375fps and only for pistols or SHORT barrels. Prepare for stuck bullets!

Super Calibre's are same bullet may nave powder and velocity of 500 fps. I would still avoid long rifle barrels.

Then you have CCI and Remington "CEEBEE's" these shoot a 29g bullet at about 750fps

Now we have CCI Quiet 22LR. This is a full 40 grain bullet at 720fps.

I have shot these as well and I'll tell you out of my 20-22" rifle barrels BUT in my CZ with a 29" barrel they will stick!!

Regular Colibris are noticeably quieter from my 617 4"

I have noticed an accumulation of grit in the action of my 22 bolt rifle when I fire more than a few Colibris. It's almost like sand.

I also haven't had the best luck with accuracy from pistols and rifles with the Colibri and Super Colibri. This is especially so in my 22 revolvers as my model 18's are good to go with all other 22 loads I have tried.

Although a bit louder, I much prefer the CCI CB longs due to improved accuracy and cleanliness.

In my LCR .22 the CCI Quiets are loud enough to require hearing protection. Recoil is negligible. Can't speak to penetration, as I haven't shot them at targets conducive to evaluating penetration.

In my Henry youth-model lever action rifle they are quiet enough that I don't need hearing protection.

I took a couple boxes out to the range today. I was shooting a 10/22 w/ fixed 4X scope sighted in at 50 yards.

At 25 yards I was having to hold over 2" and was able to group most of the bullets into 1 1/2" group with a couple of flyers? This to me would be fine for backyard pests.

At 50 yards was a different story. I kind of wished I had a mill dot scope. I was holding over 6" and coming up with something that almost resembled a group if you squinted at it in just the right light.
