Win PDX1 Vs. Speer Gold dot?
So i just picked up a used LEO trade in G22. and realized i did not have enough money to buy new carry ammo. So i plowed through my ammo box and found 2 boxes of 180g Gold dot, and 2 boxes of 180g Winchester PDX1.........
Now i've used the gold dot before. My local department uses it and i've seen a lot on it.
But i have not heard much about the PDX1's. My mother bought it for me as a Christmas gift last year and i've never fired it. I've heard somewhere or another that this is the round the FBI uses in their glocks, is this true?
Is there any Benefit of the PDX1 over Gold dot? Or do they basically mush up to the same ballistics?

The Gold Dots will be cheaper to replace too (50 round boxes instead of 20 rounders - at least I've never seen PDX1's in 50 rounders).

Given that these are leftover rounds, replacing isn't the issue right now.
However, when replacing, go online and pick up your carry ammo: better than retail prices even after shipping.
Example:
Walmart has .45 230gr 20 round boxes of PDX-1 for 24.95 (about 1.24 per round) and one of my LGS was selling the same box for near $27.
I picked up its big brother, Ranger T +P .45 230gr 50 rounds at SGAmmo for 76.7¢ per round after shipping.
Whatever you prefer, when you can afford to replace, stay away from LGS prices on premium carry ammo.

Gold Dots, There have been some QC issues with PDX-1 so, if you go with that, inspect every round before loading up a mag.

Over all points the PDX1 bullet out performed the Gold Dots hence the reason the FBI changed to Ranger Bonded over their Gold Dots. Realistically it is a wash, Use both.
The PDX1 you have had long enough that most likely it was produced by skilled labor at the old plant. The QC problems with the 40 cal ammo is mostly from the new plant.

Gold Dot is my choice, every time.
It seems that Winchester QC is **** (my personal experiences + what gets posted) and the PDX1 isn't economically priced. If you go Winchester at least hunt down the Ranger Bonded.

Congratulations on your great purchase.
Seems to me you have nothing to worry about with your existing carry ammo--they are both very fine rounds.
These videos will rest you at ease:
and
you have slightly heavier versions of both, but don´t forget your velocity will be a tad higher than his G23 barrel.
And here is the test for the 180 grain Gold Dot

I've had crushed and/or severely bulged cases in PDX-1 .40

If it is SD or hunting, I think it is a wash between the two. The FBI is using PDX1 branded as Ranger Bonded, but I am not sure on the weight. Probably 180gr would be a good guess. There are a lot of different rounds to choose from in the 40 S&W and it has be shown to be slightly more effective with lighter bullets, 155 or 165gr. These do recoil more than the 180gr. I personally like the Ranger T in 165gr, the HST in 155 gr and the Speer Gold Dot in 155 gr for self defense. There has been some problems with the PDX1 165 gr expanding. I do not know if that has been worked out.

I don't know about "shown". There is a lot of anecdotal evidence but no hard statistics as far as I can tell. Gel testing certainly doesn't show any real performance difference, in fact if anything 180s penetrate a bit more, on average.
