P228

Picked up a P228 CPO from Buds a couple of months ago. Finally got a chance to shoot it and, to my surprise, I didn't shoot it well at all. I guess I must be used to my CZ P-01. The P228 is a beauty of a gun and is about as well balanced as it gets. But, I'm thinking I'll put it up for sale here on GT and use that to fund a SP-01. I think there is something to be said for a continuity of arms.

I know this will probably end up as a comment in the "what guns do you wish you didn't sell" forum at some point. I know it is blasphemy to sell a P228, but I just didn't get the magic feel that I expected.

Don't feel bad about it. Despite the "Ohhs and Ahhhs" over the 228 I prefered the Sigpro series and did something a rarely do, I let someone who listened to the "O&As" talk me out of my 228 for enough to pay for my used 2340 and new German 2022. I shoot both of them better than I did the 228.

I hate to step on toes but my CZ 75 compact and P-06 were both more accurate in my hands than the 228 and had better ergos to boot.

I am one of the old fashioned kind of guys that finds out for himself what works best , for him, rather than reading about what will work best. It is good to do research, but depend on your own experience for the final decision.

Sorry to hear about that, man. I'd say use it to fund what makes you happiest, and also what you have fun and enjoy shooting more accurately.

I'm sure that you won't take too big of a hit on a slightly-used P228, especially since it's already been back to SIG for an overhaul.

Enjoy your replacement piece, though!

Yeah, it is a sweet gun. Just not the one for me. We'll see how the SP-01 works out.

Ergonomics are a funny thing.
And it's not just how the gun feels in the hand.
There really is no substitute for live fire.
I always recommend people (and ME) rent a gun if possible
before buying.

I personally don't shoot Beretta or HK guns well.
They are fine guns.
I always tell them; "It's not you baby, it's me" LOL!

I'm on the "what guns do you wish you didn't sell" list
with a Stainless HK USP 45 compact.
Like you I just didn't feel the magic.
We were like unmixy things her and I.
We had to break up.

I may still try a HK P30 LEM.....

If you decide to sell it, I'd appreciate a PM with how much you're asking. I'm (hopefully) selling my extra Beretta to fund a CPO 228.

Definitely agree on the renting thing. BUt, w/ a Sig 228 CPO, I knew I could take a chance and sell it right back for probably less than the price of rental.

So you only give a gun one chance? If you don't shoot it well from round one you proclaim it a no-go?

I tried a 228 and didn't like it either.

This is a great point. Also if you are not shooting the pistol you are comparing to at the same range session it IMO is really difficult to make a fair comparison.

I went to the range yesterday for the first time in a while having been in the hospital for a week and then on medication for a couple weeks after that. So off I went with two of my very favorite pistols. First up was my P226 that I always shoot well. Hmm little dissapointed, but not bad, in my shooting Then my PPQ that I always shoot well and the same story . By the end of the range session I was closer to normal for me shooting with both pistols but still a bit dissapointing as I was out of the game for too long.

However if you are sure new P228 is not what you want sell it and move on. You certainly won't have a problem selling it. Different strokes for different folks. Thank goodness I tried many different pistols before buying what I wanted. CZs and HKs are some of the pistols I least like to shoot while I love SIGs and Walthers.

This is a very good point. I think w/ practice, I would get on with it fine. Trust me, this is in no way an indictment of the gun. I think the P228 has proven itself as a top of the line 9mm. My main line of thinking is that I'm sticking w/ the P-01 for my main pistol. So, I think it makes since to get used to one trigger system and style. The P228 is just too good of a pistol for me to just leave it lying around here. I know they are coveted out there.

I really like the 228/229. If it's not working for you there's no reason to keep it though.

See.....your experience with the Sig P228 mirrors mine with my Glock's. Love all the advantages of the Glock, but just don't shoot them as well as other pistols. Now in my case, I decided not to sell my Glocks..... Want to know why?? Because I've read hundreds of blogs written by people who have sold guns for various reasons and then had seller's remorse. If I were you......I'd keep that P228. It's a classic and in every way and a finely crafted firearm. You sell it now and in a year or two you'll wish you had it back. Just save up for a new CZ, but keep that Sig.

You know, I had the same issue. I owned a (if I'm remembering correctly) West German P228, and loved it; for the life of me, I can't remember why the crap I sold it. Then I got a CPO P228 years later, and, for some reason, just didn't care for it. I dunno if it was the older build quality, or the trigger or what. I just can't put my finger on it.

It is a great feeling pistol and is magnificent to look at. It's just one of those deals where I'm sticking w/ my P-01 so I just don't want to have a safe queen 228. The SP-01 makes more sense. I know I may regret it later since they will likely become harder to find as time passes. But, my wife has a strict "net 0" gun policy. I can do all the horse trading I want, but for now I'm stuck at the current ceiling of 5.
