Ruger SP101 2.25" barrel.

Just got back from the range with my dad's 2.25" barreled Ruger SP101 that he purchased for CC and I must say I am very impressed with how well this gun controls the recoil of the .357 Magnum. We both shot some .38 spl to begin with and then we shot some hotter .357 Magum loads that I had laying around for my S&W 686. I was really surprised how well it handled the recoil, it was actually very fun to shoot. We shot 100 rounds of .38 spl and 100 rounds of .357 Magnum. Without a doubt I'd say if you are looking for a .357 snubby this is the one to buy. I think this will be my next purchase as well.

Sounds like you had a great time with an enjoyable gun.

Definitely had a great time and the little snubby was a pleasure to shoot. I really like the factory grips, fit my hands perfect.

I know there are lighter and smaller .357 Magnums on the market. In my opinion, the SP-101 is the perfect combination of size and weight. I've had one for many years and carried it alot.

I was originally thinking about a little Smith J-frame/airweight, but after shooting the SP101 I think it's safe to say I am sold on it. The only thing I will want to do when I get one is to smooth down the edges on the hammer because they were kinda sharp and my thumb felt it a little bit after shooting it in SA.

Have you considered getting one in hammerless/DAO?

Yeah I have thought about getting the Bobbed hammer version. It's kinda nice to have the option to shoot it in SA though, so I'm kinda on the fence.

Recently picked up a used one (great condition). Went out and shot it again today. It is a great little revolver. My brother tried it out and fell in love with it. He wants one too.

That's exactly what I think, too!

I've fired my wife's 3" barreled SP-101 until it's, literally, too hot to touch with bare skin. I've done this several times, now, without the slightest hiccup. I really enjoy shooting this little 357 Magnum; and the Chuck Lutz trigger job makes things just that much smoother and more accurate. Chuck is the salesman who talked my wife into buying her SP-101; and I'm very glad he did. He recommended the 3" barrel for greater accuracy over longer than, 'in your face' distances. Chuck was right about that, too. Being lighter weight wouldn't add anything to this superlative little 357 Magnum; and, let's face it, the pistol would be just that much harder to practice with!

I love mine, it's the right combination of weight, strength and carries really nice on a belt.

I've got the 2.25" 357,3" 9mm and the original 4" 22lr. Obviously my favorite model for a revolver- did have to change out the grips and put on Hogue and Badgers on all of mine.

Really tempted to put some nice wood grips on mine. I read that there are some wood boot grips out there that make concealment of the grip better.

Great guns! Glad you had a good time. To me there are some small 357's that are downright painful to shoot...The Ruger is just heavy enough with good ergonomics to soak up the recoil. With short barrel amo, the muzzle blast is not onerous. My suggestion is to not pass by the 38 specials you might find out there. I got one for $275 back 10/07 and turns out by serial number check to have been made in the first year of production in 1989. I have put a Trijicon Night sight on the front sight. Easy swap with the pin removed the old came out. Drilled a hole in the base of the new one while it was stuck in the gun ( used a dremel ). Really points naturally in the dark with the night sight. It will handle 38 +P ammo all day.
On ebay I just saw some nice wood inserts for the factory grips for about $30.
