Man with gun at Dark Knight Rises?
http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012...olice-say?lite
So forgive me if this has been posted already. An Ohio man carried a bag containing a Glock, and a bunch of knives into Dark Knight Rises.
Thoughts?

It could be over blown and he was simply a legal CCW or maybe he was planning something.
It is hard to say from the news reports I have seen...

I carry when I go to the movies....or anywhere else for that matter.
I'm sure the media has blown it out of proportion.....AS USUAL!!!!! They are the ones that should be shot because they are the cause of all the hysteria and panic in this once-great country.
It's very sad what we have become!

There are two movie theaters in my little town. One has a little sign saying that firearms are forbidden. It has no legal bearing in Florida, but I take my legally concealed firearm to the other theater, anyway.
Hard to know what to think of this incident. Could he have felt at risk, and thought that carrying in a satchel was legal if he didn't have a CCL? Maybe, but maybe he was up to no good, too. Sounds like he was probably carrying illegally, though, so it is hard not to wonder if he had nefarious intent.

While listening to the News, I heard them say while searching his house, the L.E. found a lot of firearms.
I am not defending the guy by any means. But the Media reporting the amount of firearms a person owns, is getting very old.

So he brought one pistol with a couple of spare mags, he left his "tactical vest" in the car, he left his rifle and shotguns at home, and he left is "bullet proof vest" at home.
Yeah...sure sounds like he was up to no good.

The Media mentioned firearms and knives. The Vest and Tear Gas mask was an added bonus. You’re supposed to be hiding in the corner wetting your pants and never want to go outside again.

It was reported that he "was the first and only one there."
"When you consider the movie he was going to and what happened in Colorado, you have to wonder what would make him want to bring the weapons into that particular film. Our police officer did a great job spotting him." Is it really that hard to spot the only patron?
Also, he sat in the middle back, a position of "tactical advantage" the police say.
All of this because an employee called the cops because he had a "beige satchel."
So why was he taken into custody? No ccw permit?

So what!
Last year I carried a bag with five guns into a restaurant and ate my meal.
It was a big boy of that matters, and I was at the National Matches. I just wasn't going to leave thousands of dollars worth of guns in the truck if I couldn't park where I could see the vehicle.

Its is difficult to conclude what the actual situation was without the media clouding the water. However, I imagine myself watching a single man walk in to Dark Knight Rises carrying a bag. What would be going through my mind? It's unfortunate that a single sick individual can make us begin questioning each others motives.

I know and understand the Media gets things wrong and sometimes I believe they do it on purpose to draw attention, however, it has been said the guy had a CCW permit.
If the guy did not have a permit and he was not Open Carrying, then I could see that as a problem. Since we here in Ohio do not have Constitution Carry. Yet!
The Media reported he was the first and only one there is pretty stupid. Was he the first one there or was he the only one there? I would think if you are the only one there than you are going to be the first one there too. It goes hand in hand.
As far as his choice of seat, they called it a Tactical Advantage. Maybe, but the Theater near me is always empty and I sit probably around the same location. This way the speakers are not blaring in my ears during tense scenes and the Air Conditioner is not blowing directly on me. Maybe I should be profiled and the seats should be taken out.

Ban all seats with tactical advantage!
I still think a satchel with a pistol and knives is kind of odd, though. He must have looked really suspicious because I probably could walk anywhere with a pistol in a Coach man-purse and no one would think anything of it.

Some people carry off-body for comfort. Fanny packs and 'satchels' made to carry guns are common. I'm not a fan, but people do.

Depends on the state. Carrying TO work is fine in MO. Of course, getting out of the truck armed in certain parking lots can cause all sorts of problems in and of itself.

Did anyone happen to catch the comment the arresting officer made?
"Our job is to protect the community," he said of police. "It's not his role. If there's a gun, it's because our officers brought it. It's not his job to bring the gun, it's ours."
What a ignorant thing to say...

I think carrying a gun at work when their policy strictly forbids it WILL get you fired. I can't foresee too many "second chances" in that situation

If you think dressing around a gun is hard, wait until you try IWB carrying a cop! Have to buy pants at least 30" bigger than normal, and a XXXXXXXXL shirt, and they STILL print!
