I don't see any option for starting a poll when I start a new post.

Do I need a certain number of posts before a can start a poll?

No, poll-starting for all users was deactivated many years ago because of overuse. Like, half of each forum main page were polls.

If you have a poll you'd like to see posted, write out the questions and choices and then contact (Private Message) the Moderator in the forum where you'd like to see it. If that forum has no appointed Moderator, then I'd suggest contacting Mrs.VR for assistance.
