Glock Gen 3/Gen 4 Interchangeability?

I posted this question in the General Glocking forum but after I got to thinking about it I should have posted the question here (I couldn't find the answer in the search either):

Can you interchange a Gen 3 slide/barrel onto a Gen 4 frame?

If so, is there any downside to doing this that you're aware of?

The dust cover size is different on many models.

Are you saying that the Gen 4 frame will fit on a Gen 3 slide barrel for G17, 22, 31, 34, 35s?

The example/link is for the G26 which my understanding is they are both about one-and-the-same.

I was thinking of using a G22 4th Gen lower (frame), with a G34 3rd Gen upper (slide/barrel).

Yes a gen 3 upper will work in a Gen 4 lower, not vice versa.

The only downside is cosmetics.
