The last one for July. Another Colt :)
Well, its not quite as nice as my recent Officer's Model Match, but this is yet another oddball auto that's been on my list for some time. Here we have a First Edition Colt All American 2000. The 2000 was manufactured for about three years during the early to mid 1990's. It was basically a failure for Colt. The first edition models had wood grips and an alloy frame. After that, the 2000 had a black polymer frame. Likewise, the all metal version of this pistol is more rare and steadily increasing in price. Its a striker fired pistol that utilizes a rotating barrel and roller locking system. Its much different than anything Colt built before or since. Despite the trigger's appearance, it does not pivot. It pulls straight back like a 1911. Racking the slide on this pistol is very smooth and can be done with minimal effort. The 2000 was only ever chambered for 9mm and was mostly built from parts sourced elsewhere and assembled at Colt.
Colt had very high hopes for this gun. At the time, the company was nearly bankrupt and they felt it would be the pistol to get them into the polymer craze of the 1990's and back into the holsters of policemen around the country. The 2000 was plagued from reports of unreliability from the get go and things just didn't go Colt's way.
I feel the first edition is certainly the best looking out of the two versions, but that is not saying much. Sadly, despite have a slide finished in Colt royal blue and a nice set of wood grips with a silver Colt medallion, this is a very homely looking handgun. I did my best, but I couldn't make it look sexy from any angle, lol.
As you can see, it came with the box (no outer sleeve though) and all the papers. It also came with two 15-round magazines. The gun itself is in very nice condition, with just a few light handling marks.
Please enjoy the pics. Does anyone have a 2000? Like I said, most of them are polymer pistols.
Your comments are welcome, but try to go easy on me. I already admit its an ugly pistol.
Thanks!

One thing for sure. This man knows how to make a hideous gun look sexy.

Congrats on the find.
I will not call it ugly, just homely.

Thanks Cody.
Well, what can I say? You know my weird admiration for rare and/or goofy pistols as much as anyone here.

Great catch, and it was nice to read a little background on the piece. Thanks for sharing!

I haven't thought about one in years. I was quite busy working and not paying much attention during it;s short lifespan but I recall thinking that it kind of reminded me, because of the rotating barrel and grip angle, and the slide configuration, like someone had crossed an old Savage pocket auto and the old Colt pocket auto and then fed it steroids.
It was "fugly" but it IMO deserved more attention than it got. And after a who is to say anything about "fugly" if they are old enough to have seen a Glock BEFORE they became popular?

Never knew the first gen was a metal frame, I'd only seen the plastic. Nice pickup.

Nice pictures. Odd looking, sort of the ugly cousin to a Hi-Power

Thanks for sharing. Given all the technical peculiarities, I'd like to see what it looks like broken down.

Thanks.
Yeah, the polymer models are much more prevalent. I'm not sure of the ratio or even how many Colt built, but I'd estimate the production run to be 90-95% polymer.

Ouch!
That there is an insult to my favorite 9mm.
Come on Bill, there's no way the 2000 looks in any way related to one of the most beautiful pistols of all time.

Bac,
I thought that you already bought one of these monstrosities last year?
Also, the gun wasn't born from the minds of Colt but of Knight (as in KAC).

I see one from time to time at gunshows. I actually like the way it feels in the hand. Nice pistol Bac!

Yeah, I've seen quite a few of the polymer models. The alloy frame, not so much.
