Take the rear sight off?
Curious, if anyone thinks a tactical shotty doesn't need the rear sight for home defense.
I'm considering taking mine off.
I personally don't see the point of having the rear sight on a HD shotgun. It's not like your gonna take the time to line up the sights to take the shot in a moment of stress or someone lunging at you.
Is this a wise decision? I suppose if an onslaught of "zombies" come toward your house then you'd want them but really...
Anyone have anything to add?

I do. In America it's a "shotgun". And why remove the sight ? If you don't wanna aim it, just don't use the sights.

Ok, ok. I'm speaking slang with the usage of "shotty."
Try again...
Perhaps I should abjure my rueful lingusitics in such a manner as to remain politically correct in light of the present company at this open colloquium. I therefore, concede to thee my utmost esteem and timorousness.

This is it in a nutshell. I don't see sights being a drawback since using them is a shooters option.
Practice at the range using the sights as just a peripheral reference while concentrating on the target (like a wingshooter)

Would you remove the rear sights from a HD handgun? Of course not, that would be silly. What about a HD carbine? Nope, still silly. Then why would you remove it from a shotgun? Makes no sense.

On a home defense shotgun a front bead sight is all you need.
But if your shotgun came with ghost ring or rifle sights removing the rear sight will leave you with a front sight that is too tall.
If you are going to remove the rear sight remove the front as well and replace it with a bead.

I would not remove the rear sight. With a rear sight it gives you an edge for farther shots,if needed.
If you ever have to shoot someone and you altered the sights it may look bad in court.

For a pure indoor gun using buck, a front sight only is fine.
If you ever plan on using slugs for any reason, a rear sight is better.
And if you think nobody uses sights indoors, you need some training.

If you use Ghost Rings correctly there is no "looking through" the rear sight. Just like the Combat sight on an AR. The gun comes up and you focus on the front sight. Rear sight alignment takes care of itself. The GRS front, has the advantage over the bead of being larger, faster to acquire, and usually elevated above the barrel and therefore the lower half of your target is not blocked out by the barrel.

I wonder if posting anything on a gun forum might also.

That's why my three rules for internet postings are,
1. Don't post anything you wouldn't want your boss to see.
2. Don't post anything you wouldn't want your spouse to see.
3. Don't post anything you wouldn't want 12 jurors to see.
Questions?

Yeah. Why would I give a **** about any of that? If I use my shotgun, Castle Doctrine covers that. No details needed.

New DA, Anti-gun, ambitious, wants notoriety......your gun tricked out, rear sight removed.
Sir, did your shotgun had no rear sight. Did you aim at the deceased or just start blasting?
Sir, isn't aiming a firearm one of the basic steps in aquiring a target?
Why did you alter this gun so you couldn't do that?
Lets say your case starts the day after a massacre like in Colorado.
Just saying..........

Most shotguns don't come with a rear sight.
If your attorney has half a brain it won't.be an issue.
