Aimpoint Mounting Location

Howdy,

I just got my Aimpoint Pro in. Where is a good starting spot to mount it? (besides on the rifle )

Further or closer to to the rear site?

What practical differences does it make in use?

I generally shoot with the stock fully extended if that effects the answer.

Thanks,

HK

I run mine as far forward as possible, but still on the receiver.

This makes it quicker to pick up the dot as you drive the rifle out.

This, but I still plan to get a cantilever mount to move it even further foward.

The battery storage is over-rated on the LaRue in my opinion. I have one, and getting the little battery out is time consuming. That being said, it is a great mount, and it is still the gold standard of QD optic mounts.

My vote goes to where the rifle balances best. Generally, it will be as far forward as possible while still on the receiver, as others have stated.

Right on, well done! I like that the best too, for the balance and it doesent take up a lot of peripheral vision. Of having the sight right up in the face. Great set-up by the way!

I run my EoTEch as far forward as I can. When I get a flip-to-side magnifier I won't have to move the EoTech.

As far out as possible on the receiver with a cantilever mount if possible.

I have an Aimpoint Pro coming to mount on my Colt LE6920. Do I use the included mount or do I need to get something else? I just looked it over and the rear sight is built into the carry handle. What do the numbers on the flat top mount mean? They are T2 through T12. Thanks for the info.

The mount that comes with is a great mount as long as you don't want a QD mount. Other than that it's good to go.

Yes, carry handle off, rear sight on.

Haven't had an issue with stock mount after about 3000 rds. The T numbers are just for reference so if you take off your optic you know where you had it last. You will need to buy a separate rear iron sight if you are wanting buis.

Sent from my iPhone... which probably auto-corrected something wrong

Far forward upper. Lots of eye relief on the optic makes it real easy to pick up the dot with both eyes open and ample field of view. This position is contrary to the ACOG 4X 32

Hold on... The Aimpoint PRO has a QD mount! I just got one in hand, that's how it was designed!

Question? Where should the red dot be in relation to the front sight post when aiming?

As a general rule when using red dots---don't worry about sights as long as it's parallax free.

That said, popular mounts are 1/3 lower cowitness (irons are aligned in the lower 1/3 of the optic) or absolute cowitness (irons are aligned right on the red dot)

I have the same rifle that you do. I mounted mine as far forward on the rail as possible.
