So the mayor can arbitrarily terminate three officers at once?!
No town council vote? Even if the Chief had been terminated by the mayor, wouldn't the OIC have a say if his officers are to be removed or not?

The whole situation is a mess. The mayor was voted in as a write-in. The officers conducted the arrest under the advisement of the city attorney. Civil service rules are in place as well as them being part of a union. The city's insurance carrier is about to pull coverage for the city because of this mess and other things.
All you need is clowns and an elephant and you have a real circus.

we are not civil service or union protected. we are subjecated to this type of abuse if "they" want. thats just the way it is in small dieing southern towns.

Wow, shocking abuse of power! I'm interested to see how many zeros they put on the checks they have to write to those people the mayor fired. Anyone want to set and over/under on the total price tag?

This mayor looks like a crotchety old jackwagon that sits in front of his house with a garden hose waiting to spray kids who step into his yard.

Of those who voted, 40% voted for him. The remaining 60% was split between two other candidates. I had a good laugh about the fact that when the media came to the mayor's house and went on the property to talk to him, he told them to get off the property or he would "call the authorities."

Rumor has it that at some point, the state was approached but declined to involve itself. Likely because additional information at light now wasn't some time ago.
Cy will find out that there are procedures and if he and his supporters thing that dumping their PD will save them time and headaches, they will be sorely disappointed. Or, if they think the PD will jump to their tune, again, sorely disappointed.

Yep. Cy did things so poorly that they and their union now have multiple legs to stand on for a lawsuit, if they chose to go that way.
What to watch for is if/when the insurers pull the coverage of the city and the charter gets yanked.

Awesome! You literally couldn't write a script with a crazy corrupt town mayor as well as this guy portrays the character in real life. I love that he's so pathetic, corrupt, and stupid that the cops just keep on working and just ignore their illegal terminations.

There is no indication that the Mayor is corrupt. Its more a situation of an honest but "crazy old coot", who doesn't know what he is allowed to do as mayor, vs some good old boys in city administration.
