Rock River Plastic 1911

Saw a review in a gun mag on the new plastic Rock River 1911. Would anyone consider buying one? I believe the price is $800.

I saw pics from SHOT. I'm not really interested in it, for myself. I am interested in its construction and seeing how well it works, and sells.

I miss RRA's 'regular' 1911's...

I saw the pics also and it does look interesting. Would like to shoot it and see how it compares to the metal 1911.

I want to see and hold one in person before I make a final decision on them. I have a Rock River 1911 and AR-15. Both are top notch quality. I can't RRA putting out something that was of below par quality.

I would think this would be another quality product from RRA. Hopefully it will be at Camp Perry National matches at their store this year to handle.

I owned a couple of RRs back when they were made with steel frames. I thought maybe they were on to something here with the polymer frames, but now, I'm not so sure. I read a review that indicated they decided to make the frames considerably larger than a traditional single stack gun. The reviewer wrote that the RR without grips, is still thicker than a traditional single stack 1911 with grips. Sounds basically like a double stack sized grip on a single stack pistol...

Where did you read that review? I was under the impression that it is built on regular 1911 specs.

It's not something I would normally buy, but I'll admit that I'm very curious. I want to handle one and make up my own mind.

I dig the crap out of em, and thought they were awesome from the SHOT footage. There was a thread here a while back during shot, and I thought it just great. I also really dig the new RIA 22TCM double-stack with the 9mm barrel. But, I already shoot a polymer double-stack 1911.

I saw this too. I don't get the point of a double stack grip size on a single stack gun. Must be cost, unless it's a test bed for true double stack similar to 2011 at some point in the future.

It's actually an in-between size. It is thicker than a metal framed single stack, but smaller in circumference than a true double stack. It was necessary to make it thicker to get enough rigidity from it. It might help distribute recoil. Then again, it might be a little harder to conceal. That's why I want to handle one and find out.

In any case, the polymer frame would sure cut down on finishing costs, and also allow many color options, as shown on RRA website.

As said, there may be cost savings in machining, as well.

The upper and FC parts appear to be good quality. May be worth a look.

No thanks. I don't see what I'd gain besides a weight reduction. I don't think the 1911 needs a diet. Besides from what I read above, this one lost some weight and got fatter.

I'll join the "like-to-know-more" camp. I like the idea of a polymer 1911, but I'd need to get my hands on one before I'd say, "I'll take it."

More plastic crap. I would not spend anywhere near that on a plastic gun. There is a reason the 1911's from years past are still in service today,NO plastic.
